Cloudy light yellowish in the glass with a nice bubbling foam. The mouthfeel is sudsy, a good approximation of the German creamy carbonation. A whiff of the banana-scented esters. A pleasant subtle aroma.

Slightly sweet but also tangy from all the fizziness. This has a toasty malt flavor that is different from any Hefeweizens I've encountered. Warm and malty, but light and clean. This is a more sophisticated, if that's the right word, variety of Hefeweizen. So bright and flavorful but without the cloying intensity of a lot of brews in this style. The clove element is faint, the way it ought to be.

Tasty and sensationally drinkable. From the 32 oz jug purchased at the brewery tap in South Seattle.

On draught at the Collins Pub, Gallant Maiden is a very murky straw yellow with a small white head that leaves very light, scattered lace.

Smell is spicy esters, clove, and yeasty. Some lemon as well.

Taste is also heavy on the clove and yeast, some chalkiness to it, a grainy finish. A little corse overall, but stylistically within the guidelines.

Mouthfeel is dry, medium light bodied. There's a few bits of sediment of some sort that I can't see through the murk, but have noticed on my tongue.

Drinkability is okay, a perfectly serviceable hefe that showcases the yeast and goes down with ease. A little grainy though, perhaps to hot of a sparge?

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a very cloudy yellow with over an inch of bright white that dissipated at a moderate pace leaving an above average amount of lacing.

The typical banana and clove aromas are there, but muted. Same goes for the flavors, this is a more subtle Hefe than a lot of examples.

The body is typical for the style. Drinkability is very good, due to the fact that the cloying traits found in some Hefe's is absent from this beer. A solid example of the style, worth some effort to try.

Growler poured into Maudite stemmed glass, reviewed on 5/28/11

A: Pours a cloudy straw color with fluffy white head, decent retention that leaves nice lacing around glass.

S: Pale malts with hints of bananas, cloves and some yeast.

T: Similar to the aroma, pale malts with wheat, some banana and spice notes, some herbal hops as well.

M: Lots of carbonation makes for a rather sharp mouthfeel, lighter body that finishes dry.

O: Decent hefeweizen, not bad but nothing spectacular.
