Had on tap at Brouwers. Review from notes.

A: Pours a dark brown, slightly burgundy color with a small tan head with minimal lacing.

S: Lots of roast, coffee witha slight hoppy kick.

T: Lots more caramel and chocolate. The finish is very chocolate forward, reminds me of a tootsie roll almost.

M: Medium to full bodied with moderate carbonation.

O: A solid beer, look forward to next years version.

32oz bomber, Chucks, split

Served in unbranded snifter - pours a dark cola body with a thin beige ring of lace. There is a bit of wood throughout but the bourbon is light - bolder barrel utilization would benefit this one I think. Toffee and earthy wood dominate the palate and a thin layer of booze coats the mouth during the finish.

pours a dark brown. prominent bourbon, vanilla, and caramel with both smell and taste. A very satisfying barrel aged beer.

Appearance: dr. Pepper. Slightly reddish brown. Purple and rose hues. Medium foamy off white/light tan head. Clear. Fizzy.
Smell: light vanilla, caramel, and whisky.
Taste: light vanilla, caramel, fig, cherry. Followed by light oak and then boozey alcohol.
Mouthfeel: medium to medium low carbonation. Big body. Sweet.
Overall: great barrel aged beer for the price. Balanced well. Will buy again.

Poured into a Dogfish Head pint glass. Pours a cloudy dark mahogany amber with a two finger tan head that slowly dissipated leaving lots of lacing. Rich aroma of bourbon, dark malts and oak. Flavor follows aroma with oak, bourbon and dark malts with a light taste of dark fruit and chocolate. Finishes slightly hoppy with residual oak and chocolate. Medium bodied. A nicely integrated tasty brew. Finish is a big lighter than I expected, but overall very enjoyable. Glad I got to try one of the rare bottles of this.

Half growler filled at 99 Bottles - $9 for 32oz (not too bad)

A: Dark brown body with 1 finger head. Lots of small bubbles.

S: Vanilla, oak, booze, some dark fruits. No hops.

T: where do I start? so while the flavors that I do get are quite good, there isn't enough taste. It lacks the punch. This was the same problem with this brewery's porter - it doesn't pack enough flavors. I think the base beer they are using for this is the problem. The bourbon characters (vanilla, oak, booziness) are integrated quite nicely though.

M: This is the real problem with this beer. It's too watery. I think it's also lacking carbonation.

O: Overall - pretty ok. There are many many many other better bourbon aged offerings I would drink over this though.

Nice beer. On draught at Taphouse in Bellevue, WA. Big oak and vanilla character, with heavy black cherry notes. Cracked pepper in the middle. Slightly smoky. Mouthfeel is a little bit thin and fizzy. Whiskey overtones hurt the drinkability, but thiss is an excellent brew.

2013 bottle on clearance for 6 bones. L - dark strong ale, dark brown and barely translucent with an inch of tan head; S - a little harsh, with concentrated dry fruit and whiskey; T - nice! The sharpness from smell comes through here too, but in a very good way. Flavor tends to have a bit more hops and less malt than other strong ales, but pairing with the whiskey makes it a wide ranging taste experience. Starts hops and ends wooden with solid oak and vanilla. F - carbonation is bit towards the bubbly side and the wood doesn't do as much as I'd like to smooth it out. O - this should be drank near room temp; I came in expecting something like a Fremont B-bomb and was disappointed a bit. However, taken on it's own merits, this is very good and will serve as a perfect contrast of whiskey barrel aging vs. bourbon barrel aging. In short, whiskey barrels provide a much sharper flavor profile that seems less prone to mellow with time. Another year may serve this well and at $6 I'll probably throw one in the cellar to find out. Prost

22oz into a tulip. Pours a deep amber brown w/ a rich fluffy head, sticky lace.

Aroma is big caramel malt, warm roasted barley, toffee, brown sugar.

Taste is likewise sweet and malty. Caramel, toffee, dried figs and dates, warm booze.

Mouthfeel is thick and full bodied.

Overall a balanced, tasty winter warmer.
