I had a schooner of Seamstress Union, at the brewery, on 8/4/2012.

Appearance: Seamstress Union is a very foggy light orange with a fizzy head.

Smell: Seamstress Union’s aroma is initially dominated by the raspberries but fades to complex citrus and bread notes.

Taste: The taste mirrors the aroma but, on the palette, the raspberry, malt sweetness, and wheat blend stupendously to impart the suggestion of raspberry pancakes. The tartness from the raspberries and the hops clip the flavors off for a very refreshing finish. The brewer told me the berries used are all purchased frozen fresh and the tart character is exactly what you’d get with slightly under-ripe raspberries.

Mouthfeel: Seamstress Union is light/medium bodied, fizzy, and finishes very clean.

Overall: Seamstress Union is easily the best berry beer I’ve had. The sweetness and bitterness are in perfect balance. On a hot day, this beer would be on my short list. The brewery will also serve you this beer mixed 2/3 Seamstress Union and 1/3 King Street Brown to form “The Shocker”—a delightful, rich, malty, and crudely named treat.

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a hazy light golden amber with a half finger white head that dissipates quickly to a thin ring around the glass. Aroma of raspberries and a somewhat muddled wheat and light malt. Flavor of wheat and raspberries with wheat malt, semi-dry with slight tartness from the raspberries. Light bodied with nice carbonation. A pleasant, balanced wheat/fruit beer with moderate taste intensity. I would have liked a bit more classic wheat presence, but the light raspberry does compensate.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a slightly pinkish gold color with with just a thin cap of white head that had OK retention and very light, almost none, lacing.

The aroma was very raspberry forward in the front with a smooth wheat scent underneath. The flavors were the same, the berry gets you first, then the nice wheat taste shows up for balance. The flavors combined nicely clean and the beer wasn't sweet, as so many attempts at this type of thing tend to be.

The good and smooth, with a clean, dry finish. Drinkability was very good, you could drink several of these without ODing on sweetness. Overall, a very good take on a style that is often heavy-handed. Worth trying if you see it.

A: pale orange, slight haze, very fizzy, could be mistaken for a soda

S: very berry forward, sweet hay, sugary

T: I have had it a few times now and the raspberry is starting to fade, but I am actually liking the subtle berry flavor better. The delicate wheat flavors are starting to come through.

M: light and fizzy, easy to drink, refreshing

O: great summer beer, simple, straightforward, raz wheat.

at Belmont Station.

Hazy light golden with a thick, foamy white head.

Wow, lots of raspberry with a light wheat backing. For the style, very well done.

Right up there with the nose, lots of fresh raspberry notes blend into a mild wheat backing.

Medium-full body. Average carbonation.

A very well done raspberry wheat. Strong raspberry notes, and most importantly, natural raspberry notes.

Poured a slightly murky gold with a thin film of loose white head. Mild malt aroma with a subtle sweetness that hints at caramel and berry.

Moderate carbonation and a light, exceptionally creamy mouthfeel. Nice wheaty backbone with some subtle sour raspberry undertones. Very drinkable and summery.
