A: dark. Deep brown to black. Held up to light you can see deep red to purple. Thin, brown head.
S: roasty. Chocolate.
T: roasty, chocolate malt, easy on the roasted barley and black patent. Balanced well.
M: a little too carbonated for a Porter, for me. Almost spritzy. Medium body, Halle Berry.
O: a great porter. Not too bold, but I like it like this. Would have rated higher if the carbonation was toned down a little.

Pours nearly black, with a couple fingers of beige head. Foamy lace. Some roasted malt aromas, light coffee, and a dry chocolate powder accentuates the nose. Taste dry, chocolaty, roast, sligh coffee bitterness, lightly sweet. Medium body, adequate carbonation, dry, easy drinking. Overall, a solid American porter.

On tap at the Schooner Exact taproom.

This is a dark beer. I couldn't tell about the head because the SE folks served me a glass full to the brim ... if there was a head, they had poured it off. Good lacing once I had drunk a bit.

Smell and taste are both pretty roasty, even to the point of charring. The beer even had a bit of tartness to it, I thought, just a bit.

Body is thin.

Overall, this is a pretty average porter, perfectly OK and a decent representative of the style, but nothing to stand out from the pack.

22oz into an imperial pint glass. Pours a deep transparent brown w/ a big crackling khaki head that settles to a fluffy pillow of foam, some nice lacing.

Aroma is roasty, chocolatey, and bitter, but also a bit muddled.

Taste is likewise bitter and sharp, roasty. Coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt.

Mouthfeel is clean and balanced, maybe a little thin. More in the range of an English porter in terms of body. Smooth and velvety.

Overall a decent, drinkable porter but nothing superlative.

Color is a dark reddish brown in the Chimay chalice. Giving it a little extra vigor in the pour makes for a handsome dark beige head. Quite a pleasant sudsy mouthfeel. Just a whiff of coffee grounds. The body is fairly light with only a touch of sweetness. Some warm roasted malt greets the lips, followed by waves of the dark and scorched barley.

The touch of charcoal sourness in the finish is interesting. The last gasp of flavor expires on the tongue and leaves a watery grave. This is a nice "light" brew with quaffing in mind. The flavors are nothing special, and the grainy stew may not be your cup of tea. From the 22 oz bottle bought at Bottleworks in Seattle.

I had this beer on-tap in a pint glass at Bottleworks in Seattle.

Appearance: totally black with a thin layer of tan foam. A nice lace is left on the glass.

Smell: a bit ashy and charcoaly, which I happen to really like. Rich and enticing.

Taste: ashy and roasty like the aroma, although a bit more so. Bitter at the end with a dry finish. Good, but kind of mild for such a roasty brew.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a great carbonation and wonderful creaminess. Bam!

Overall: tasty and drinkable, if a bit ashy and dry. I'd have this again.

Thanks to GRG1313 for sharing this one at his tasting.

Pours a clear dark brown with a foamy khaki head that settles to a small cap on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and slight dark fruit aromas. Taste is much the same with char and slight dark fruit flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roasty bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer with a nice aroma and some tasty flavors for the style.
