Poured into a Black Raven pint glass. Pours a light, clear straw amber with a fine half finger white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma of biscuit malt, wheat, light lemon and a hint of banana. Flavor is wheat, mild biscuit malt, light lemon and banana with a biscuit wheat finish. Starts slightly sweet, finishes semi-dry. Light bodied, but peppery carbonation creates a pleasant mouth feel. A nice weizen style beer that's great to have fresh from a brewery. I lean more towards unfiltered wheat beers, but this has lots of wheat flavor and nicely subtle citrus and fruit flavors. Flavor is a bit on the light side, but a refreshing light wheat beer I will revisit again.

On tap at Black Raven.

A - Served a very light, clear yellow with a nice foamy cream-colored head. Bits of lacing were left on the glass.

S - Not much here. Some pilsner malt, and subtle spice.

T - Banana, lemon, spices, wheat.

D - Light body and good carbonation.

O - Light, crisp and refreshing. Good summertime beer.

I had this on-tap in a pint glass at Special Brews in Lynnwood, WA.

Appearance: medium yellow hue with a very light haze and a somewhat lazy effervescence. Head is a thin layer of white foam. Not too bad!

Smell: lightly wheaty with just a hint of something piquant -- sour maybe. Not particularly strong in any case, though.

Taste: rather grainy right up front with a little bit of a sharpness around the edges; a refreshing wheaty character runs all the way through. Reminds me a lot more of an American-style pale wheat ale than a German weizen. Not bad, but not particularly exciting.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a decent carbonation and creaminess for the style. Nothing to complain about here.

Overall: quite refreshing indeed. While the graininess is just a tad harsh up front, the wheaty character really smooths out the finish. Quite drinkable, but otherwise unremarkable.

Served On-Tap in a Wilibecher Pint

A — Pours an extremely clear and transparent pale pale yellow color into the glass. Some quickly rising bubbles help to form a stark white head, some lacing left behind is quite consistent.

S — Slightly sweet and crisp, this mostly smells of fresh grains and a little wheat, really just light and easy.

T — Super fresh, light, smooth, and crisp, really not a whole lot of depth of flavor, but still a good easy drinker.

M — Light in body, fair amount of carbonation, very nice overall.

O — Great overall, haven't had many in this style, but this is executed very well.

Sunthief is a clear golden yellow with a thin head and moderate lacing. There are aromas of honey, and a little wheat with a very tiny hint of clove. A crisp honey taste meets your lips first followed by pilsner malts, light wheat and a subtle hop bittering. A thin but very clean carbonated finish.

This is a very refreshing and tasty beer. The pilsner malts give it a little body and the finish is smooth. Great for a hot day or if you just want something light. I easily drank a 20oz glass before I knew it.
