Source/Serving: 12oz bottle

S: slightly burnt earthy cocao, amaretto, light acidity. Nice and distinctive.

T: A classic brown porter (BJCP style 12A), which isn't very popular or widespread among American brewers even though it’s a favorite style of mine. Nice solid roasty body that is slightly bitter cocao, but since its not too intense it stays balanced. The flavor is dominated by caramel toasty grains. More amaretto, and marzipan from the nose, almost hinting at candied cherries. Slightly sweet which is barely more intense than evident bitterness. Very unique profile that’s light and heavy at the same time. Somewhat creamy with a finish that has notes of marshmallow topped irish coffee, and is smooth but not very roasty with a clean lightly roasted coffee note and heaps of caramel.

Notes: A very unique take on the porter that fits the definition of the style but is very interesting. I'm not crazy about the amaretto note, however.

A: Poured a murky amber brown with a thin one finger fluffy white head that fades to a solid white lace.

S: Roasted malts, chocolate, a hint of coffee and more roast. Not incredibly sweet on the nose, slight hoppy character in the aroma as well.

T: Earthy tones come first, followed by roasted barley and chocolate malt, a bit of coffee and some hops and bitterness. Nothing amazing going on, but not bad.

M: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, slightly creamy but not overly so; easy drinking. Could be more creamy to me.

O: Not a bad porter, but nothing I'd rush to drink again. Worth a try but there are far better options on the shelves.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a footed tulip.

A: Shallow brown hue. Lots of effervescence. Pours a slight bubbly head, which settles quickly leaving only a slight ring around the rim. No lacing.

S: Roasted almond and walnut, tea leaves, and a little bittersweet chocolate.

T: Slightly bitter roasted pecan shells, and a touch of a hop bite. Slight sweetness, in the form at the tea from the nose.

M: A little bit of a shallow, washed-out feel. Light, bitter finish.

D: Pretty much a session style experience.

Atmosphere is fair. Not much to look at... no real head, and no lacing. Nose is a pretty solid combination of nutty, bitter, and sweet components. Flavor is roasted nut, with a bit of a hop bite, and some inert sweetness. Overall, this is a decent quaff.

12 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: This beer poured a small head that has reduced to an outer ring of foam. It is a dark brown color with some clarity when held up to the light and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass.

Smell: sweet caramel and chocolate notes.

Taste: Taste is along the same lines with lingering bitterness.

Mouthfeel: smooth, light bodied, medium carbonation, lingering bitterness.

Overall: Not sure if I was expecting more out of this beer, but no coffee, smoke, or lack of more chocolate makes this more of a brown ale instead of a porter. Pretty average porter to me, but good to have tried a beer out from Missouri.

Poured into a pint glass. Pours translucent dark reddish brown with a very light soapy tan head head. The head retreats slowly and there are some visible tiny bubbles rising in the beer that I can see from the side of the glass. Poured into a pint glass. Pours translucent dark reddish brown with a very light soapy tan head head. The head retreats slowly and there are some visible tiny bubbles rising in the beer that I can see from the side of the glass. Some of that roasted barley malt is up front and I catch that wheat malt they added. There's some of that chocolate in there as well. The woody and earthy character from the hops are also present in the taste in the back end. There's some of that roasted malt on the back end that lingers in the back of the mouth. The body is light to medium with moderate carbonation. The beer is smooth and the drinkability is high. This is a very good beer.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a very dark brown, almost black, with a thick one finger tan head.

Aroma of roasted malt along with coffee and some dark chocolate. Some caramel in ther too.

The flavor closely echoes the smell with coffee and roasted malt. No hop flavors are detectable and bitterness is on the moderate side. Mouthfeel is a bit thin but it is enough to allow the roasty character to shine.

Overall, a better than average porter in my opinion. A little fuller mouthfeel would do a lot to improve it.
