Papou's is mostly specializing in wine but they have a good selection of beers to choose from also. When you walk to the back of the store they have a table full of beers and mostly the same ones cold in a fridge. What is unique about the place is that you purchase the beers by the single bottle. It is nice when you just want to try one or don't want to spend too much money on a whole sixer. The prices are good for buying the beers by the single bottle. If you got a sixer of one kind of beer it would probably be only a dollar over what you would usually pay. They have a nice array of beers to choose from including alot of bells, chimay, flying dog, grolsch, left hand, stone, and a few from close by breweries. The guy that is always working there (probably the owner) is very friendly and will happily give any info on any beer that he knows of. They also have some good bands usually once a month on friday nights. Definitely a place worth checking out.

This place is mainly a wine shop, a very nice one for the area. It does, however, have a corner reserved for beer (some cold). A decent NC selection. The most unusual beer in the establishment was an Erdinger non-alcohol Weiss beer, never seen that one before. The single bottle sales is a big plus. The best selection in the old portion of Sylva is still the little corner mart further down on Mill Street (Cope's Newsstand and Superette). This place did have a nice selection of local organic cheeses that could go with the local beer!
