Got this on tap at the brewery.
It pours with a low head, kind of an off-white/light tan. Retention was decent. The color is very dark brown, translucent. You can see through it when held to the light but not otherwise.
The smell and taste were complementary to me so I'll list them together. It's sweet, complex, rich but not 'dirty'. The flavor is big and 'round' - reminds me of root beer and whiskey. The finish is lingering and rich and a little more dry than the body.
There's a bit of alcohol heat. Carbonation is present but not heavy. This is a bit of a sipper. The body isn't overwhelming but it's heavy enough that I'm not going through it quickly. The depth of the flavor reinforces that.
I'd call this one outstanding, overall. I'm really liking most of what I try from Upright.

Bottle 106/124 from the release a couple of weeks back. Thank you, Brian.
Pouring a clear deep mahogany red with a dense, off white head with excellent retention and gorgeous lacing, this looks truly amazing. The nose is deep, rich and complex. There aren't too many beers that blend whisky and Brett tastefully, and this is one of them. Fruity with dark berries, figs, a mild tropical fruit character ( a whiff of mango appears) , a touch of earthy Brett funk, mildly mushroom like, a moderate vinous note and a mild whiskey heat. Brown sugar, fruity red wine, moderately tannic and earthy are also present. Excellent.
The palate is a study in continuum. Where the earthy notes from the Brett end and where the leathery tannins from the wine begin are hard to discern. Where the fruitiness turns from a dark fruit character from the malt bill to a brightness aided by the Brett (again) is a little easier to pick up. Where the spice notes end and the booze heat and the concomitant spice begin is equally hard. As I type these descriptors, I realize that all this deconstruction is for nought as this beer is simply greater than the sum of its parts. Like a well made but toned down fruitcake, this is fruity, boozy, sweet and simply a joy to drink. Booze appears on the finish, with a drying, boozy note to go with the earthy, leathery Brett, some tannins, and a fruity sweetness. Juicy, delectable, this beer is medium in body with a creamy carbonation. Excellent stuff.
