"Four is truly a light yet flavorful beer. The recipe uses a good portion of wheat and incorporates a sour mash into the process to make it slightly tart and extra refreshing. It has delicate aromas and flavors that span a range of floral, grassy and herbal notes. The finish is extra dry and makes the beer a great beverage to pair with food, especially various cheeses and shellfish."

Malts and Grains: pale, wheat, and munich, rolled wheat
Hops: hallertauer mittlefruh
Yeast: french saison

Yet another beer from Upright that convinced me they aren't as bad as their initial beers.

Pours a darker golden color, 2/3" white head, good retention. Aroma hits all the saison boxes, rustic hay, pasture, alfalfa, lemon, straw, wheat. Good yeast that doesn't ramp up the spice rack. Dry.

Taste is enjoyable, light hallertau hero impression, more of what is in the nose impacting both taste and mouth feel. Light bodied but pushes an equal parts saison/grisette notion throughout. Little bits of pear, apple and lemon impressions without using any fruit. Carbonation right where it should be. I even like it leaning on the more bitter side for a traditional saison, it works with all the feed grain notes.

Should also note I held onto this bottle for 2 years before drinking it. Worked out quite nicely. Plenty of desirable flavors with a dry light body, this is what saisons are about. A true saison, not a saison/wild hodgepodge.

First I've tried from this bunch. Looks promising.

A hazy peach colored brew with a seemingly unending white froth. Tons of pear, lemon and orange to the nose. Subtle florals as well. More light fruits going down crisp and dry with a malty middle. Faintly tart in the finish. Notes of herb linger. Medium in body.

Packs a flavorful punch for it's size.

Poured into tulip:

L: golden straw body with mega foam head. Reminds me of Duvel as well,as an ice cream float.

A: mildly sour, lemony, floral, earthy, brett?

F: thin, creamy, and quickly dissolving

T: some lemon, some malt, some hops, yet very bland

O: got this bottle for $5 so can't complain but nothing to really take home

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a semi-hazy to light transparent semi-burnt orange color to it. A one finger white foamy head dissipated within about thirty seconds leaving some messy lacing sticking and then sliding here and there. The smell started off with some sweet grassy to citrus dryness. Light wheat strains in as it warms. The taste was mainly sweet with a light bitterness sticking in there. Sticky sweet citrusy aftertaste leads into a semi-dry finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs smooth enough to allow sweet grassy/citrus combination sticking slightly on my tongue. Overall, I say this was a pretty good saison that I would have again.

Farewell, #4. Bottle from New Seasons.

A beautiful, glowing yellow with a voluminous, white head that leaves plenty of lacing as it slowly recedes. The nose is fantastic. Beautiful, bright lemon and dusty hops to go with a cracker-dry malt base, grainy wheat and a little earth. Mildly spicy with white pepper, the floral notes associated with Sichuan peppercorns. There's a pronounced floral hop character as well, mildly jasmine like and quite hoppy. The palate is crisp if a little overcarbonated, opening with flavors of crackers, cotton candy, a little honey and the gorgeous hop bouquet. Lemon, flowers, a little mint and some dusty, earthy bitterness are all present. A distinctive French saison yeast character is present, restrained and mildly spicy and a little bready. Drying, mildly bitter finish with lingering lemon and floral notes. Excellent stuff.

From the 750 ml bottle in a snifter. This saison pours a lightly cloudy
straw amber color with a HUGE head of white foam that settles to a thick
ring and layer with light lacing. Nose of phenol yeast, lightly sweet honey,
and subtle citrus notes. Flavors hit the right notes with white grape and
a nice yeast note on all sides with a touch of grapefruit and herbal spicy hops
rounding out the lightly sweet note with a touch of tartness. Nice mouth feel;
effervescent, smooth, crisp, and finishing with a light spicy note. Overall a nice
farmhouse style ale.

Cheers
