"Six is a dark rye beer with layered flavors including chocolate, caramel, pepper, wood, cherry and tropical fruit. It starts semi-dry and smooth and finishes fully dry and tart with a small bite from the hops. The overall balance of the Six makes it easy to pair with richly prepared meats along with many harder cheeses."

Thanks to hopsbreath for sending this my way. Split two ways and served in New Belgium globe glass.

A: Very carbonated right away... even a very soft pour produces a fantastic 2" light-paper-bag colored head that just sticks around forever. Leaves a pretty sticky, thick lacing as it fades. The beer itself is dark brown and burgundy; almost completely opaque, only the slightest bit of light around the edges of the beer.

S: Fruity sweetness and rye spiciness dominate. Very full bodied nose... yeast notes and some additional bready notes from the malt. Very nice.

T: Very strong rye malt character; spicy with a nice, bright fruit sweetness. Strong yeast notes as well. A hint of lemon and cherry tartness on the finish... not overwhelming or strongly sour, but definitely present. Some unpleasant notes on the aftertaste; a combination of lingering bitterness and an off flavor I'm having some trouble identifying. Mild in comparison to the strength of the rest of the flavor profile.

M: Highly carbonated. Medium-thick mouthfeel, very brisk in combination with the flavors.

D: Above average drinkability, but half of a 750 is more than enough.

An extremely interesting and unique offering from Upright. I don't think it would be a regular go to for me, but certainly a fun one to try. More than happy to drink it again.

Pours a murky dark reddish brown with billowing dense khaki colored head. Thick sheet of lace down the glass until the end. Smell: raisin bread, dates, baking spices. Taste: raisin, caramel, soft graininess, moderately spicy, unripe but not tart plum. Medium plus bodied, finished drying and mildly sweet with lingering earthiness. Nice!

Poured from 750mL bottle into a tulip.

Appearance: deep, rich amber-brown with a slight touch of haze and a strong effervescence. Head pours three thick fingers of creamy tan foam. I think it's quite attractive.

Smell: bready malt aroma with a definite rye character: a little spicy and fruity. There is a little cherry here as well as some caramel and toffee. It reminds me a bit of a subtle quadrupel. I like it.

Taste: much like the aroma, with plenty of raisin, cherry and tobacco character. Rye spiciness is definitely there but it doesn't overwhelm anything. This is quite a fine beer.

Mouthfeel: rich body with a huge carbonation yielding a decent creaminess, if a bit rocky. Quite good.

Overall: this beer really appeals to me. I'm very glad I've discovered it.

750ml capped bottle into Tired Hands stemware. Shared with schen9303.

Pours a frothy 2 finger cream colored head with good retention. Beer is a dark, almost opaque mahogany. Lacing is thick and layered with great stick. A really nice looking beer.

Nose is peppercorn, caramel, cream, brown sugar, and a creamy, hop bitterness. Moderately aromatic but a bit awkward.

Opens caramel, toffee and brown sugar. Creamy hop bitterness mixed with some coriander, clove and spice in the middle. End is more caramel sweetness balanced by a smooth nuttiness and anise. Aftertaste of spice and nutty notes. Decent.

Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Smooth on the palate but accented going down. Messy finish with a lingering aftertaste. Just a touch heavy but still pretty drinkable.

Solid if a bit strange for the style. A nice deviation but I wouldn't revisit this one.
