Shared a bottle with my wife.

Pale yellow with large bubbles
The aroma is of pale malts and wheat
The flavor is of a wheat beer slight spice but mostly pale. The flavor is almost of a very pale fame house ale. The coriander brings in a Belgian white taste and the salt is very faint.

Not for me my wife loved it.

Thanks to blutt59 for sharing this bottle. This is my first gose and my 101st style, only two more to go.

The beer pours a very light hazy yellow color with a white head. The aroma is some tart wheat with some lemons, bananas and salt. The flavor is similar. I get notes of lemons, wheat and some salt. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. This is a very light, refreshing beer that goes down very easily.

Bottle shared by Joe – much obliged!

Pours a hazy light golden color with a 1.5-finger white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of yeasty light malts with good amounts of light and slightly tart citrus.

Tastes very similar to how it smells. Crisp light malt flavors kick things off and are beefed up with the addition of bread-like yeast flavors. Midway through the sip moderate amounts of light citrus flavors and hints of earthy hops come into play. The citrus turns slightly tart, carrying through to a mildly bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It’s got a nice thickness with smooth carbonation.

Drinkability is very good. I finished my glass quickly and could easily have a few more.

Overall, I believe this is only the second beer of the style I’ve had, but once again I’m impressed. An interesting beer that doesn’t differ much from a saison, well worth a shot.

Bottle from the latest release (2011?)

A: Apricot colored pour with a stark white head.

S: Light stone fruits, sea salts, gelatin, red apples

T: Bright fruits with mild tartness, strong apple character, pale grain, curt finish with a lingering mustiness. Not picking up any coriander.

M: Dry on the tongue, not slippery like the Cascade Gose.

O: A great light summer sipper. I like the mild acidity and refreshing complexity of this brew. The label art is tasteful as well, if that counts for anything.

Bottle from private beer store in Vancouver. Pours hazy orange, and is lacey. Some funk and sour in aroma. Initially the sourness hits, then the yeast, and the very saltines. Ultimately sour salt water. Sweet corriander. Drinkable for a glass but a pint is impossible to put down.

750ml bottle, split

Dope label - don't have much for traditional german glassware, so hill farmstead stemware will have to do. Hazy urine-orange body, foamy white head with basically no lace. Bread, lemon, honey, corriander, salty mineral-y finish. Not a style I'm in love with, but a nice representation.

Big thanks goes out to MSquared2 for sharing this one at our Labor Day tasting! Served from bottle into a Mikkeller taster flute. Poured golden with a one finger white head that subsided to a minimal amount slowly. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, tart, fruit, salt, wheat, and subtle tart. The flavor was of sweet malt, tart, sour, salt, earth, and wheat. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a fairly great brew. Gose, you say? Let's do this! I had heard good things about this brew so I was quite happy to see it make an appearance at our tasting. I had heard correct as this was a really well done brew in all aspects. Wish there was a little more carbonation though. The flavor and aroma were almost perfect in my opinion. All the right notes for the style and none of the drawbacks. The saltiness was there in both but it didn't pound your face into submission and leave your palate screaming for mercy which was very nice. The sour/tart note definitely helped to pull this one off. A really well done brew by Upright that I would love to have more of in the future. Thanks so much for sharing this one Morgan as it is currently my favorite from this style!

I had a bottle of this beer last year and didn't care for it as much as Portsmouth's example. This year it's a lot better. Looking at the top rated Gose's, I see it's holding that number one spot. I think it's well deserved. The notes for this are based on my third bottle in the past month. The 750ml bottle cost $10 and was split into a pair of Duvel tulips and shared with TulipSnifter.

A: Pours a nice hazy cantaloupe color. About a finger of snow white head quickly dissipates to some fine bubbles on the side of the glass. No lacing. I've had the afore mentioned Portsmouth Gose, four variations of Gose from Cascade, and another one I can't remember all that well at a beer fest. The minimal head and absence of lacing is very appropriate for the style as far as I can tell. 4/5

S: More pungent then I remember last year’s being. There's sourness to it, but not the typical lactic sour found in a wild beer. This has the sour mash smell. A little bit of putridity goes a long way here and promises something special. Granny smith apples, lemon grass, and coriander (upon suggestion) are all identifiable. One of the more robust and interesting I've had of the style. 4.5/5

T: Clean crisp wheat provides the backbone while a refreshing squeeze of lemon keeps this bright. Some mint and cucumber make for a refreshing drink. A note on Gose's in general; I've noticed that all the one's I've had seem a little under-attenuated and a touch sweet. I'm curious if it is in fact an attenuation problem or if it is a side effect of the sour mash making a portion of the sugars less bio-available and therefore left residual instead of being fermented. I'm not going to dock points for this exception due to the perceived parity in this respect. 4/5

M: Moderate, spritzy, refreshing. 4/5

O: The Upright boys just keep making better beer all the time. This is proof. 4.5/5

Murky orange yellow with tightly beaded champagne carbonation. Fluffy head of white foam, every small pour billows right up to the rim of the glass. Sticky froth forms a collar around the edges of the glass. Good surface coverage.

Minerally, grainy wheat in the aroma, clean and simple.

Flavors of wheat, coriander, salt, cheese rind, definitely a smooth savory feel from the noticeable salt addition. Slight tang, but not really tart. Smooth supple feel, light but with a moreish savory quality. Very quenching and drinkable, but it could use a little more zip. True to style, and worth a try.

Appearance. Pours a hazy straw with a little amber. Very little bubbly white head.

Smell. Lemons, a little toasted wheat and a hint of funky yeast. Smells nice.

Taste. Nice sour lemons, just a little funk in the middle and a tart finish followed by a lingering saltyness. Pretty awesome. The only one I've tried of the style, but man this is good.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body with full, fine and lively carbonation.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy light beige color ale with a super huge foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consists of light salty notes with coriander and solid Belgian style malt base. Taste is also dominated by a huge Belgian-style malt backbone with some medium coriander notes and some subtle notes of salt. Body is quite full with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Well brewed and super enjoyable. Looking forward to trying more beers from this brewer.

- Pours a nice clear amber yellow, not much head to speak of... little dusting left over the brew.. small bubbles trying to create a ring.

- Nice floral, herbal, grassy, and bready zesty yeast aromas. Nice earthy hops, light grain..

- Great tartness, herbal flare.. bready light sweet grain.. wonderful herbs and tartness.. really tasty. Light funky hop aromas.

- Light body, little drying, but not at all sticky or cloying. Tartness makes the mouth water. Light carbonation, but rather bubbly during the drink.

- A nice tart and refreshing Gose. The carbonation is surprisingly light. I love how tart it is.. many don't reach this level. Quite good.

A: clear golden color with quickly dissipating head

S: lemon, lemon grass, tart apple, some "green" apple.

T: moderate bitterness of herbal hop, lemon-peel, grapefruit, low-medium malt. These flavors come quickly and leaves quickly. Some lingering after taste of alcohol/malt sweetness.

M: feel "rustic" malt. dry finish.

D: very good. Nice and refreshing.
