750 bottle pour into a tulip glass. Deep brown, slightly hazy off white pillowy head which lasts for a while. Smell is tart whiskey with hint of spice. Taste is chocolate toffee, vanilla, whiskey, with a slight tart finish, dry. Nice medium body with complex flavors. Solid but not amazing.

Not sure of the vintage, but believe it might have been the 2012. Pours a hazy amber-brown with a light tan head. Nose is very much reminiscent of pumpkin pie - it reminds me very much of a winter warmer. Taste is also similar to a winter warmer; however, there's also a peppery quality and the grains of paradise are also discernible in the spice and malt profile. Mouthfeel is light-medium in body with an easy carbonation. Overall, I'm not really clear on how this beer can be classified as a farmhouse ale. In that regard, it falls a bit short; however, as a winter warmer, it's quite pleasing.

750ml bottle into a tulip. 2012

pours a mahogany brown with a nice head. smell of coriander..cinnamon..a ton of spices honestly. taste is super in your face with a huge rush of tons of different spices. real hard to describe. one of the most different beers I've had. medium bodied, medium carbonation..ABV undetectable.

overall a real interesting beer that will have a lot of differing opinions on.

2013 750 ml bottle into tulip

Pours a murky reddish-brown with 1/2 inch white head. Smell is a little lactic with some red wine notes, I also get some sweetness and spice notes. Taste has some of the red wine and lactic flavors, some rum and fruit notes. Medium body with average carbonation. Overall a very good beer worth trying.

Bottle, 2013 release, consumed fairly fresh. "The 2013 installment of this annual seasonal release is a brown ale spiced with cinnamon, allspice and cubeb pepper, then aged in rum casks from Bull Run Distilling."

A very dark brown with reddish brown highlights, this beer is capped with a dense, brown head with solid retention and nice lacing. The nose is rather spicy. Christmas spices abound, there's plenty of allspice, cinnamon, nutmeg and mace, along with QUITE a bit of brown sugar from the rum barrel. As a result, this smells sweet and floral, rather potpourri-like, along with some cola-like aromatics. The base beer is hidden.

The palate opens with the rum barrel characteristics dominating, lending brown sugar, cola, some vanilla and charred wood. The cinnamon and allspice (I swear, it tastes like there's some mace as well) meld really well with the rum barrel sweetness. This beer really does bring to mind a nice winter warmer/Christmas beer. Toasted pumpernickel bread, brown sugar, toffee are present. Medium in body with medium-low carbonation, this beer finishes with rummy sweetness and cinnamon. Not wholly my cup of tea, but nicely done.
