From my notes

Appears clear gold with a very small white head.

It smells of citrus hops and somewhat Belgian peppery, fruity yeast and caramel sweet malts.

It tastes of dry citrus hops initially. A substantial amount of sweet caramel malt and dry malt adds backbone for the hop bitterness of the beer. there is a strong funky and peppery Belgian yeast that rounds up the beer. a very complex beer but a very well-balanced one as well.

It is smooth and has moderate carbonation.

Overall a great take on a Belgian Double IPA. Worth getting if you see it around.

Enjoyed from tap at Upright Brewing's cellar.

This is a saison/IPA cross. Sounds either interesting or sinister depending on your beer personality. Brewed for the IIPA festival.

Surprisingly this came across nicely. It's an interesting mix, though I think it appears more of an odd German ale/NW Pale Ale love child than anything. Not really getting any Saison notes.

Hops seem to dominate the nose and palate. There is a bit more complexity on the nose with the malts and a hint of yeast and fruit coming through.

Overall impression was that I enjoyed tasting it, but I don't know if I could drink more than a small (4 oz) glass.

Poured @ Bier Stein Into 12oz Snifter

A - Pours a murky peach/orange with tight 1 finger beige head, good lacing lingers on the glass, and head fades to a thin slick on top. Nice caronation for what you can see through the fog.

S - Tangerines, peaches, light spice, faint yeast, quite sweet like a barely wine almost.

T - Lots of sweetness, not sure if it is hops or malts or both, same as the nose, some tangerines, and peaches, spicy phenols, tastes like a mild barley wine with a sweet punch up front and a bitter finish

M - Quite sweet, med-full bodied, quite bitter finish, but not chewy. Good carbonation.

O - Not too impressed. The sweetness lingers too much, and the finish is bitter, but not dry. Not much hops in the nose or palate, but definitely in the bitterness. Reminds me of a Belgo-Barley wine to be honest.

On tap at Grain and Gristle PDX, also served at Saraveza IIPA fest, 7.16.11.

Cloudy deep gold body, no multiple streams of small carbonation, one finger white head, very quick dissipation with minimal lacing. Big hop hit in the nose, good amount of caramel malts for sweetness with apparently some Munich/Pilsener to dry things out. A bit citrus, grapefruity up front on the taste, taste like Warrior hops, piney bitterness on back end, nice balance with hops. Mouthfeel is medium, pretty dry finish due to Belgian yeast, slight stickiness. Very enjoyable, the closest thing I've found to Orval stateside. Worth seeking out, glad Alex ventured into this IIPA territory.

Exceptionally cloudy pale gold colour with a fluffy white head. Good lacing.

Light floral hop aroma with a touch of malt and some fruitiness. Well balanced and quite good.

Big, floral hop flavour with mild bitterness and some nice spicy yeast character. Good light herbal grassiness. Nice.

Medium light body with moderate carbonation. Good.

A solid IPA/saison cross with really well balanced flavour. Nicely crafted and just great.
