Notes & Commercial Description:
Beer added by: boralyl on 04-01-2012

A mix of barrel aged Four and Six using cherry and raspberry along with souring yeasts and bacteria. It's fruit forward in the nose with a balanced flavor bringing the malts and oak together. Named for friend and colleague Ben Love of Gigantic Brewing Company.

Released March 2012 (750ml bottles)
Second Release - March 2013

From Upright's blog:
"...essentially the Four Play but with barrel aged Six with raspberries mixed in. The inaugural release... used 25% of the Six. It's an evolution of the Four Play, giving it added layers - more malt, more alcohol, deeper color, and more fruit (but still in check with the malt profile)."

This bottle was courtesy of 22uesday in a recent trade. Thanks Sam!

Blend Love pours a lighter bodied and bright, rosy copper in color with light effervescent lacing around the glass. The nose features aromas of slightly sweet raspberry, light but tart cherry, oak, light acidity, and subtle wild yeast. The fruit becomes more prevalent in the nose as the beer comes closer to room temperature. The flavors are very clean. It's clean and racy with tart raspberry and tart cherry with a moderate amount of brett. It also has a subtle rose water esque character to it as well that leads into the slightly oaky finish. This bottle is approaching a year old but the fruit still has a nice presence. The mouthfeel is light and clean. An initial rush of flavor and carbonation swarm your palate, leaving you with a slightly dry wild yeast flavor after each sip. Overall I think that this beer is a lot of fun and a spectacular American wild. The cherry and raspberry work very well together. I wish that there were more beers like this. It's definitely one of the better barrel aged saisons out there and well worth your while.

750ml, 2013
Deschutes TEKU

A: Hazy pinkish orange color. Highly carbonated. Later of light pinkish white color. Sticks around a while. Lots of little bubbles coming up sides of glass.

S: Really nice tart raspberry on the nose. Pulling the cherry too. Oak tannic quality. Dry and musty. Mild funk.

T: Punch of tart fruit up front. Raspberry and dark cherry flavors. Continues to the mid palate. Oak tannic dryness. Funk from the yeast. Not as "sour" as I was initially expecting. Dry finish. Some lingering fruit flavor.

M: Lighter side of medium. High carbonation.

Thanks to Michael for this bottle. Pours a gloomy burnt orange color, like a dark tequila sunrise (sunset?). Sublime aroma, perfectly lactic and milky with sweet cherries and a nice raspberry tartness. Flavor follows in kind, bursting with soft fruit, about 60/40 cherry to raspberry. Creamy lactic mouthfeel, pillowy on the palate, sourness is modest but appreciable. Basically the beer version of a nice lean Greek yogurt with perfectly ripe fruit on top. Fantastic beer.
