Big perfumey flavor like a Kolsch gone totally berserk. That scent stays in your nose, but finally some butterscotch and whiff of peat smoke, along with some burnt sugar.
More bitter than any other Scotch ale I've had, but at least it offers some balance with the massive sweet malt. A little sticky, in keeping with the style. Not overly carbonated. This is the most drinkable of the peculiar Upright brews I've had, but not one I hope gets brewed again.
On tap at Kn'B Liquors in San Diego. This was a collaboration brew between Upright and Laurelwood out of Portland. Brewer notes it's made with two English base malts, Maris Otter and Pearl. [From notes 10 March 2012]
