The Flora Rustica is a prime candidate for barrel aging and much like the Saison du Blodget, produces a historic flavor profile in this bottling. Not quite as hoppy but drawing from the botanical elements of yarrow and calendula, the Flora displays a significant lactic edge to sharpen the otherwise earthy flavors.

40th birthday beer #2!

Appearance. Pours a hazy gold with a touch of amber and a finger of white head that fades to a skim pretty quickly.

Smell. Floral herbs, marigold flowers, lime and lemon rind, and a touch of woody white wine. Interesting.

Taste. Getting a ton of lime here, some floral herbs and marigolds again, oak and vanilla, oranges, and woody spice. Again, interesting.

Mouthfeel. Medium-light body, low carbonation.

Overall. An interesting and unique brew. Enjoyed it more as I went along and got a handle on everything going on with this one.

A: Pours an exceptionally clear apricot colour with 1-2 fingers of off-white head which quickly dissipated to a thin layer. Minimal lacing along the sides of the glass.

S: Limes and lemons along with wet wood, barnyard funkiness, pepper and spicy yeast. Pungent floral notes along with mineralness.

T: Tart lemons together with dry mineral notes and barnyard funkiness. Finishes dry and clean.

M: Dry and clean, with light to moderate body and medium carbonation.

O: Complex smells and taste with citrus, minerals, floralness and wet wood all working in harmony.

From a bottle, pours a golden orange, white head that laces the glass and hangs around.

Nose is oak, lots of wood, a faint vanilla. Citrus fruit. The flavor is heavy citrus, tangerine, lemon. Some lactic, Brett mixes in well, with the floral earth tones, and a little oak and vanilla on the tongue. This is a really delicious beer. Refreshing aftertaste, drinkable.

Overall, more of this please.

A - Pours a cloudy, dark orange with a fizzy, active light tan head that fades pretty quickly.

S - Lots of spices, floral, Brett, earthy.

T - Very subtle at first, then spices, tartness, floral hits you at the end.

D - Decent carbonation with a light-watery body.

O - Great spices and floral notes, not as intense in the taste.

750mL into a tulip. Pours a hazy copper color w/ a soft 1-finger head, not much lace.

Aroma is funky, tart, oaky. Sweet floral notes and a dry saison mustiness converge.

Taste is tart and lactic, but not sourly acidic. Nice balance of sour and sweet. Floral. Oaky. Juicy and tropical, orange and citrus fruit.

Mouthfeel is balanced and dry. Extremely drinkable and crisp. Mouth-watering.

Overall a really tasty sourish saison from Upright. Really glad I had a chance to try this one.

Light tangerine notes and lime notes up front, minerals and floral through the middle, with drying oak on the finish and a touch of spirits and vanilla. Neat beer and a huge thanks to BeersandBears!

Pour is dark amber, mostly clear, with a tight white head. Nose has a light vanilla oak note with a strong clean tangerine similar to that in lambic. A good hint of citrus and a touch of lime, moderate herbal/floral aroma as in the non barrel aged version. Taste is heavily bretted, faint vanilla oakiness with a nice bright tangerine and notes of lime. Gets a bit sweet and tannic but nothing major. The floral herbal notes come in as it warms. Moderate carbonation and very soft delicate body with a hint of sourness.

Bottle pour at mrbubbler's tasting.

Pours a hazy orange with a foamy bone head that settles to tiny wisps of film on top of the beer. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is slightly sour and tart with malt, grain, herb, spice, and wine aromas. Taste is much the same with sour fruit and wine flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of acidity on the palate with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a nice barrel aged presence that comes through especially well in the flavor.

this is a rare treat generously shared by drlovemd87, its been awhile, so thanks mate! what a beer this is! hazy almost greenish tinted wheaty looking beer in the light, frothy lacy and excited in the wine glass. an intensely herbal beer, bretty and funky, tarter than brett, maybe some lacto in this, but i get the herbal qualities first. green tea bitterness, the floral calendula, very dandelion-esque, and yarrow i am not all that familiar with, but i can see its contribution. when we were guessing what type of barrel it was in we though either chardonnay or gin. there is a juniper quality to this, and it has that slightly hot thing that gins do, but there is also a white grape fruitiness to this, probably a product of the saison yeast in here. very mature beer, thats aided by the oak and by how dry this is, which is extremely so. i am amazed how dynamic and flavorful and unique this is, unlike any other saison, except distant memories of that cisco island reserve saison, which was similarly botanical heavy and yet delicate on the palate. this isnt quite so intensely carbonated, but its definitely active and alive. super refreshing, citrus notes cut the wheat malt density, and im left in awe of my empty glass, for it has just taken me to a place beer rarely does. lucky to have been a part of tasting this one, i well remember it fondly for a long time. probably the best ive had from upright.

750mL from the brewery.

A: Cloudy orange with a thin foam for a head. Decent lacing

N: Lots of oak, peppercorn, banana, lemon, some funk, rosemary.

T: Quite tart and very woody to the point of bitterness. Very earthy; attic spaces and cut lawns. M: Very dry. Light.

O: Has plenty in common with a Lambic, however, it’s not as nuanced to me. Great if you like intense cedar, pine, and oak, though.
