The Flora Rustica is a prime candidate for barrel aging and much like the Saison du Blodget, produces a historic flavor profile in this bottling. Not quite as hoppy but drawing from the botanical elements of yarrow and calendula, the Flora displays a significant lactic edge to sharpen the otherwise earthy flavors.

Bottle: Poured a hazy golden color ale with a nice large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of tart and Brett notes with some light oak and funky ester. Taste is a nice mix between some hay flavours with some notes of Brett and funky ester and a light tart finish with some oak presence that is noticeable. Body is about average with good carbonation. Nice saison with loads of complexity while retaining some great drinkability.

Fantasic stuff, kind of surprised by the lower rating. It's up there with all the other barrel aged saisons IMO. It actually was very much like JK's Vulgar Affectation, but with a perfect amount of tartness that that beer needs. Floral, tart, slight funk, all the right qualities. It would be near perfect with a better head.

The floral notes from the base saison are not nearly as strong in this iteration (a good thing in my book), mixed in well with the earthy, funky, tartness provided by the barrel aging and introduction of wild yeast/bacteria. The beer pours a beautiful golden/orange, with ample but not excessive carbonation. This beer is quite complex on the palate: spring flowers, wet earth/barnyard, slight yogurty lactic edge and a touch of fruitiness (not sure if this is aged in wine barrels or not but the fruitiness is reminiscent of a softer red wine). Really well balanced acidity, barrel character, and yeastiness make this a super smooth and easy drink.

Light tangerine notes and lime notes up front, minerals and floral through the middle, with drying oak on the finish and a touch of spirits and vanilla. Neat beer and a huge thanks to BeersandBears!
