A good beer store. Maybe the best in Atlanta (I don't know) but don't fool yourself, this store is nothing compared to others across the country. A good variety, but lacking a little on the stouts. Just an average singles selection. Most singles are not cold, though they do have a quick chiller.

Good sized store with a great selection and variety, I highly recommend it for local and regional craft beer.

I was a bit skeptical about this place. I've been to too many disappointing "world-class" shops, but this place is legitimately world class.

It's a wine and bier store, and both are given a great focus. Everything is arranged by styles.

Knowing nothing of the SE brewing scene, I asked for some suggestions. I ended up having a really awesome conversation about brewing and bier while I was given a tour of all the offerings from local breweries. Fantastic knowledge, and a great attitude; openly admitting when they were expressing a personal preference, and really trying to zero in on the types of things I would be interested in (as opposed to simply what is popular). An absolutely excellent guy.

The selection, meanwhile, was very, very impressive. I could be kept busy here for months!

AND, they let you make a split 6-pack out of anything you want!
I got a 6'er of all my suggestions, and they have been all on target.

If you're in the Atlanta area, this is a must if you can bring bottles back, or you have time to sit down and drink a few.

I've been to MANY bottle shops in my days, but Hop City might be the best of them all. This place is absolutely HUGE!!! Everything is divided by beer style so it makes it easy to find what you're looking for. All of the employees are extremely friendly and helpful. Aside from the huge selection of bottles, they have a growler fill station, and a large home brewing section. I will definitely be stopping by here again when I'm in the area.

The staff here are awesome, can talk to them with just about anything. don't forget to check their adopt-a-beer section too, good for those who don't want a beer pack of just one kind.

Great selection, but hard to find specific beers. The staff person who tried to help seemed to be not up to date on what they had

The largest growler station I know of, a large and strong selection of both domestic and import craft beers, and a knowledgable staff make this a stellar beer store.

Stopped in while in town and found some nice barrel aged beers I haven't seen down in Florida like Ride the Lion, BA Narwhal, London Balling, and Brooklyn Hand & Seal. Also had plenty of Tilquin Gueuze and Quetsche, among many locals and other great brews. Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, and a big growler station as well. Looked like some brewing supplies next to the growler station, and a nice big selection of wine, too. I can see why this place is highly rated. Definitely recommended for a stop-in.

I gave it 4.5 only because I frequent the Birmingham, AL location. That store is bigger and you can get full pours from any of the 60 beers on tap. Last time I was here, state law prohibits drinking on the property but they are working on changing that.

I went to the Atlanta store today for the first time. It will not be the last. They have an excellent selection of beers plus the staff is knowledgeable and very friendly. I was assisted by 2 people, Chris and Abby. They were great. Several others offered to help. Now I have to come up with reasons to go to Atlanta.

I am a big Hop City fan, and have made it to the Atlanta store a few times. Craig is very knowledgeable and friendly, he generally recognizes me from the Bham store as well. The store seems a little cramped, but it is because it is overflowing with beer! I stop her to get brands I cannot get in Alabama. It is a great experience for beer lovers!

Similar to the Hop City in Birmingham but with a few less hard to get beers. Probably due to demand in Atlanta vs Birmingham. Still a great selection on draft/growler and even better throughout the store. They do have access to few more brewers (because of GA) than their AL counterpart.

We visited Hop City in early March of 2014, while we were in town taking a big exam. Naturally we wanted to stock up for after the exam, for the one night we were staying over in the hotel room, so we did our research and found this place to come highly recommended.

We found the place, seemingly right downtown, without much trouble. You park around back and travel up a series of steps and walkways to come to the entrance, on the street side of the shop. You enter into an open space, met first by the stand-alone checkout counter, but the rest of the store is product. Off to the right side there was the wine selection, but the entire left side of the store was dedicated to beer. It was arranged in four to five longitudinally arranged wire shelves, faced back to back, like your typical grocery aisle. There were several other wire displaces offset from this, as well as a cooler to the far back wall. Everything was clean, and no bottles were dusty that we could tell. Most things came in six packs, but we were told that we could single any bottle out, should we so choose.

The staff was very friendly, and we were asked if we needed help from at least three different employees. We finally took the help from the last one, asking if he could recommend some essentials, as we could only take what we were going to drink that night (had only carry-on’s, so nothing could come back with us). We were led to a nice selection of SweetWater, Terrapin, and Westbrook, with numerous other ultra-local offerings. All of the beers were arranged by style, rather than brewery, so it was actually a little hard for us to pin down all the things we were looking for quickly. He was knowledgeable, helpful, eager, and friendly, and we ended up getting about twelve bottles, which made for an interesting, fun, and challenging night, to say the least. We were very happy with the selection, especially since we were able to find some big hitters from the larger regional breweries, as well as some of the smaller, equally as tasty fish. We felt comfortable with the prices too, and would recommend this bottle shop to anyone just passing through looking to get a good taste of Georgia.

If you want it…they will get it.
They know their stuff. They keep the stock moving. I was very pleased.
Great belgium selection, they also have wine and mead. One of the better cider selections I've seen which helps the GF crowds.

They sell a little glassware, I would like to see more…hard to find glasses sometimes…but I can't fault them for this.

Check them out first for all your beer needs…my bet is they will make it happen. ATL is very lucky to have them.

Not much more to be said here. Everything I wanted that was available was here, service was great, store was nice, orderly and clean and location was near once of the nicer breweries in town. Prices were better than some of the other nice beer stores in the South. A must for the beer tourist.

THE place to buy your beer in Atlanta as far as I'm concerned. Great selection and great staff who know their beer and won't pester you. They get all the big releases and have a fair system in place for acquiring them. They have a Twitter account that keeps you updated on new offerings. If a beer is available in Georgia odds are they have it. See a beer that intrigues you but don't want to spend the money on a sixer? No problem, they'll break a single out for you. Excellent growler selection. If you're a wine drinker they have a nice selection of eclectic wines, too. They also sell home brewing supplies. Top notch selection, top notch staff, top notch downtown location. This place has a 100 point rating for a reason. Check them out.

Got there after a meeting with a customer, pretty great selection of beer, good prices, and the guys at the store were pretty knowledgeable and were able to take some choices to pick up some beers that i didn't had on my list.
Staff its really friendly, beer its well organized in to styles and that helps a lot.

I would highly recommend Hop City. They probably have the best selection in Atlanta. The first time I went when I moved to Atlanta, it was like Disney World. Hop City makes a great first impression and at the end of the day is one of the most reliable stores in town. It would probably easily win the award for "best" beer store in the state of Georgia.

Constructive criticism:
Their beer is sorted by style and there is so much selection that it can be hard to find. There staff is eager to help, but it seems like they always assume that they know much more about beer than you (which I assume they do, but I would rather them not talk down to me). That being said, they are very knowledgeable and reasonably priced. They do let you get singles, but prefer that you buy off of the singles shelf.

Like I said, it is the Disney World of beer stores, especially in the Southeast. Everyone goes to Hop City for special releases so I don't even bother. I do really like this place and go whenever I can. I do occasionally go out of my way to check out Hop City's unparalleled selection.

Wow! Visiting from Maryland, and heard this was one of the best places in town to buy good brews. I was not dissapointed. This store is primarily dedicated to beer, although having a descent selection of wine as well. Beer is sold as singled or in packs. If you don't see the beer you want in the singles isle you can pick one out of the pack and buy it as a single. They also have growlers for sale at VERY reasonable prices. The selection was outstanding compared to what I have in Maryland. Also, the 5 seasons brew pub is next door, and is a great place for good beer and great food. I highly recommend Hop City to anyone that lives or is visiting the Atlanta area. I make the trip to ATL once a year and will definitely make this a regular stop.

My wife and I are new to Atlanta and we found this gem on Foursquare. They offer a HUGE variety of beers from all over the world...and then a great wine selection as well! My favorite part of the store is the knowledge of the staff...second to none! They really know their beers and make it a point to have craft brewers from all over the country come by when they're in town to educate the staff. They offer home brewing classes each Saturday for the home brewing crowd and also have Growlertown to fill up your growler. I believe it was around 60 taps last I checked! Thank God I only work a mile from the place!

In a trendy part of town, this is the place to go for craft beer. The only thing missing is the ability to drink and sample from Growlertown, like they do at Hop City in Birmingham. I think the mothership in Atlanta makes up for that in selection, especially hard to find beers.

The staff is friendly, very knowledgeable and will go out of their way to suggest things for you to try. No beer snobbery here.

Growlertown is overflowing with out of the world selections.

Wish I lived here. They'd see me quite often.

One of the best beer palaces in the south. Don't miss it when you're in town.

5 stars for the insane craft beer selection. Over the top good. Just rows and rows of bottles and cans of the good stuff. But beyond quantity, the quality of the selection was absurd.

Hard-to-find American craft, a wealth of imports from every part of the world, I could easily have spent $1000 in here and not walked away with everything I wanted. Just to give an idea of what one can find, I picked up cans of Westbrook Brewing's Gose and Rye PA, Southern Tier Pumking, and a few bombers from local breweries Jailhouse, Terrapin and Sweetwater. But this was after a swift run through; If given an hour, I would've really found some obscure gems. I know it.

Anyhow, the prices were pretty fair and there were lots of bottles on sale. Also, the mix a sixer option had a lot of gems.

There also is a growler fill section with its own impressive selection of brews divided by style. The prices were fair, so if I had the privilege of living in ATL, I'd probably be in here a few times a week.

I did notice wine for sale as well, but this beergeek didn't even bother to check that section.

Finally, the service was friendly and free of snobbery, something deserving of some recognition.

Overall, Hop City is the model bottle shop, beer geek haven. If only my hometown had something similar.
