The collaboration began with Genus One, a stock ale and the origin of species. This, Genus Two brewed by Evolution Craft Brewing Co. is aged in Four Roses Bourbon Barrels the contribute tones of vanilla, oak, tannins and bourbon heat. The Genus Three brewed by Flying Dog is generously dry hoped with Galaxy hops.

thanks to larryi86.
Kinda loud and fizzy. Tan head, 1 inch, that settles down, but stays firm and present as a tan cap to the deep red and brown body.
Malt, wood and some oxidation. The malt was more neutral and not sweet.
In taste the wood turns to oak/vanilla very distinctly and is notice throughout, including the fairly long finish. Soft alcohol. More complex malt flavors show, but still not very sweet. The bourbon is faded and appears in unusual places, like the finish where is mixes with the oak. Not boozy in any way. Less oxidation here. A strong drying elements on finish. As it warms and opens up the bourbon shows forth, but still not overpowering.
Moderately big and more carbonated than most old ales.
It becomes a smooth an enjoyable drinking ale in time. The flavors start to blend nicely and the feel softens as the carbonation fades.

750ml bottle. Poured into stemmed tasting glass.

Compared to Genus 3, Genus 2 is a deeper cola brown color with much better clarity, but a poorly retained head. The 2 inches worth of head almost fizzle away to nothing after a mere minute.

The aroma is predominantly of oak, vanilla, dark fruit, and bourbon. It is abundant at first, but fades as the beer sits.

The flavor is sadly weaker up front than I was hoping for. This beer is aged in emptied Four Roses bourbon barrels, and in the finish you pick up flavors of oak, heat from the bourbon, light sweetness from the malt, and not much in the way of bitterness.

Bubbly carbonation, with a thin, medium body.

I was expecting more honestly. As it warmed up, the beer lost a lot of flavor and aroma. I thought it would develop more, but the opposite was true. The barrel quality took over completely. The appearance was weak, smell was decent, and flavor was a bit too one-dimensional.
