One off cask of a specially made ESB with hops grown right outside brewery Had a pint at the Evo Publick House tasting room. .Reportedly Cascade.
Am reviewing under different name to distinguish it from normal Exile ESB.
I've had Exile ESB many times, but never thought it a particularly remarkable bitter. More than enjoyable beer but lacking many of the highlights of a good British pale ale.
Forget that!. This is the real deal. A beautifully balanced premium bitter with a soft malt backbone and a notable hop bitterness. The cask conditioning produces a velvety mouth. Takes me back to London pubs. Has a full nose of roasted malts and hints of anise and candy. Taste is rich with mildly burnt cane syrups, hints of dried fruit and citrus/tangerine?.
If this is the original recipe, then they have "upped" the experience with the fresh local hops and the cask conditioning. If new recipe...keep it! This is a special session beer, that should be produced as a regular featured beer at the Publick House.
Grab it while it lasts!
