Poured from a bottle with a May 2012 best-by date into a pint glass.

A: Clear, dark brown pour with 1.5 finger head. Dissipates moderately rapidly. Good lacing.

S: Strong roasted smell with chocolate and a hint of coffee.

T: Standard porter flavors. Nicely roasted malt is strong, but there is an off-flavor. This bottle may have oxidized.

M: Thinner than I would like in a porter.

O: A good porter and worth a try, but it's not life-changing.

Bottled Dec 2011.

A nice looking beer with pretty good head retention. Malty and bready aroma with a bunch of oxidization too.

Taste begins with plenty of malty sweetness. Can definitely taste the 7 malts they used. Finishes less sweet but not dry like most porters. An ok brew, but there are plenty of better choices out there.

A: A dark brown pour with just a hint of red in it. Extremely large and fluffy very light brown head. Smattering of lacing.

S: Creamy roasted malt with a touch of chocolate and coffee maybe.

T: Pretty much follows the nose. Creamy with mild roasted malt char mainly. Touch of coffee and chocolate. Smoke comes out and lingers a bit in the aftertaste.

M: Medium bodied and creamy.

O: Pretty decent porter, nothing amazing but nothing offensive about it either. Notably creamy and smooth mouthfeel makes it feel bigger than it is. Otherwise a simple porter.

16oz pour into a pint glass at the Cantwell's Tavern EVO beer dinner on 2/27/12.

A: Pours a dark brown color. Light tan head. About quarter finger that sticks around for a good while.

S: Roast and toasted malts. Some mild roast coffee notes for sure.

T: There is some coffee bitterness in the tip of the tongue. Then you get chocolate and toffee and more coffee. It's a nice mild roasted coffee flavor, which doesn't kill you with bitterness. Nice easy drinking porter.

M: Medium bodied.

Part of a haul of beer my parents bought me on their way back from Florida.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle with 2012 notched but no month notched.

Appearance: Pours a cola brown with an average head and some lacing.

Smell: Charcoal, roasted coffee, toasted malt and a sweet nose.

Taste: Cold coffee, some sweet toffee but not much else.

Mouthfeel: Decent carbonation, smooth and not bad though certainly no porter robustness.

Overall: Doesn't stand out. A weak porter IMO.

Received in trade from mdaschaf, thanks for the opportunity.
Pours a solid dark brown bordering on black with a good sized off white head that displays moderate retention and lace. Smells of light chocolate and brown sugar mostly. Has hints of earth and a slight mineral edge to it. Taste is mostly caramel and brown sugar with only a tease of chocolate in it. There's a hint of oxidation mixed in here with a hint of tart fruitiness and bits of earth and mineral water. Beautiful creamy silky smooth mouthfeel, moderate level of carbonation with a medium body. Decent porter but nothing earth shattering here. Oxidation and tartness seem quite out of place here.

Poured into a pint glass. Reviewed alongside Otter Creek Stovepipe Porter.

A: Dark brown with a one-finger, tan, creamy head that lasted a couple of minutes. Okay lacing.

S: Malt, chocolate, and coffee.

T: Light sweetness and moderate bitterness. Smokey with an oak-like flavor. Roasted coffee finish.

M: Medium bodied with lively carbonation. Kind of thin.

O: Both of these porters were just above average. Nothing special about either one. I think they were pretty comparable - no winner here.
