From BeerAdvocate magazine Issue #70 (November 2012):

Pumpkin Ales should have some umph to them right? Evolution gets it with this somewhat brawny brew. Spicing is very well balanced, just enough pumpkin character to round it out. A sure thing if this is the style you are craving and it will definitely stand up as something different and fun to you novice beer drinking friends.

STYLE: Pumpkin Ale
ABV: 6.3%

LOOK: Clear brassy color, solid looking head

SMELL: Cooked pumpkin meat, pie spice, faint ginger, cloves, cake batter, bready

TASTE: Deep smoothness, creamy medium bodied, spicy start, clove, mace, nutmeg, ginger, caramelized pumpkin, mild alcohol warmth, lingering spice, modest hopping, earthy, grassy, slightly dry finish

Pours orange-brown with one inch head. Very tasty with lots of good flavors. Taste is pumpkin pie, cinnamon, clove, and slight creaminess. I will look for this again.

ST: 12oz poured into a pint glass.

A: Pumpkin orange with a half-a-finger white fluffy head. The head settles to a thin line within a minute. There is little lacing.

S: Pumpkin, allspice, nutmeg, and cinnamon (traditional spices). The pumpkin does smell a bit watery.

T: Pumpkin and fleshy earth combines with a little allspice and cinnamon in the finish.

M: Medium and dry

O: A relaxed pumpkin beer that lacks much of the spice and alcohol of its many brethren, Jacques offers some earthy pumpkin and slight spice without sweetness. It is a bit watery in the finish.

12 oz bottle, poured into a pint glass

Appearance: Pours a pretty, semi-cloudy, golden amber/orange color with a quarter of a finger of white head that quickly dissolved into a few wispy clouds that gathered into the center of the top of the beer.

Aroma: Lots of pumpkin, but not as strong in the nose of spices as other pumpkin beers. I get notes of brown sugar, all-spice, mustard and nutmeg, but not much in the way of hops, however.

Taste: Tons of pumpkin and all-spice, followed by a good malty backbone. Not too sweet, but there are notes of brown sugar. The beer finishes with some subtle hoppy bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, with some good carbonation to tickle the taste buds. With an ABV of 6.3%, there is no presence of alcohol on the palate.

Overall: This is quite a good beer. Nice pumpkin flavors, balanced well against the malt, sweet and hops. I’d certainly get it again.

Had on tap at the brewery

A: Pours a light amber color with a small head. Not as dark as most pumpkin beers I have had. Decent lacing down the sides.

S: Somewhat spicy, with some cinnamon and other pumpkin spices (cloves/nutmeg/and brown sugar). Definitely on the sweeter side.

M: Very malty with hints of spices mixed in. Nice and subtle, not over the top like some pumpkin beers out there. Had a slight hop kick in the middle.

M/D: Medium bodied with nice carbonation. Overall a pretty good example of a pumpkin beer, one of my favorites in the style for sure.

Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at Gettysburg Eddie's in Gettysburg, PA. This beer is a nice pumpkin orange color with a small white head. the aroma is full of pumpkin and nutmeg with some cinnamon, very inviting. The flavor is a really good pumpkin and cinnamon mix. This is a medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation. An excellent pumpkin beer.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a clear copper, with 2 fingers of robust white head that has a bit of an off-look to it. This retains with a thin sudsy look that leaves back a smattering of spotty lacing. Sadly, butter just dominates the nose here, with light notes of pumpkin, spice and sweetness sitting way along the back. What a shame.

Thankfully this shows a little m ore of itself in the taste, with notes of pumpkin, a moderately sticky sweetness, a sprinkle of festive fall spices and a gentle bite of crisp green hops. A flush of diacetyl does come out across the back upon each sip but it isn’t quite enough to ruin things (although it tries). The finish is dry with a lingering raw bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and firm on the tongue, with more of a smooth creaminess on the edges of the feel that help keep this mostly easy feeling in the mouth.

This is kind of sad. I mostly liked what I could see from this Pumpkin Ale but that buttery off-flavor unfortunately threw this under the bus a bit. Maybe I’ll have to try another bottle this season and reinvestigate things.

Has a sort of ember appearance. Has a minimum medicinal smell to it. Taste is spicy, has a sort of wheat like finish too it, not as sweet as other pumpkin beers. Its almost as crisp as a cider though which makes it pleasant to drink. Definitely a well rounded beer

Nice golden pumplin in color with very little haed and lacing. Aroma is light and pleasant with hints of dry spice, pumpkin and malt. Taste is light with touches of dry spice, nutmeg, sweet malt, and some tanginess. Finish is decent with a cool, alcoholic taste lingering..

Look: Coppery; what head there was dissipated very quickly.

Smell: Sweet:

Taste: Much like the nose, prominent upfront sweetness bundled with alcohol that carries thru to the finish.
Some mentioning belian, but to me it's more scotch-ale like. Not getting a whole lot with respect to spices or other flavors. No real bitterness to speak of.

Feel: A bit thin.

Overall: Pleasant enough. but not much else going on here.
