12oz. bottle poured into pint glass.

A: Orangey-gold hue with a two-finger cream colored head that eventually fades to about an 1/8" - 1/4", leaving behind an absolute blanket of lace down the glass. Gorgeous... Although the hue of the beer is a little lighter than I was expecting, but it's not enough to deduct points.

S: Tons of citrus fruit. Grapefruit, hints of orange rind. A little bit of mango thrown into the array of scents. A little bit of floralness (is that a word?) underneath the citrus. Some pine and grassiness. A light touch of alcohol spice, which wasn't unexpected in a DIPA. Complex and lovely, but not as intense as I was hoping.

T: Not for the faint of heart... Tons of hop bitterness and in-your-face citrus. A little bit of pine following suit, with a nice flowery finish. Lots of hop bitterness lingers afterwards with some boozy heat.

M: Tons of heat from the booze, but it's never overpowering. A controlled carbonation is above average, I'd say, and definitely close to a full body. Slick across the palate. Drinks easily, but definitely not sessionable. This is a sipper, no doubt.

O: Lot No. 6 is another brew that makes me feel like I'm scoring too high, but every time I revisit a category to try and "correct" the rating, I'm reminded of why I scored it so highly in the first place. It's not the most unique brew I've ever had, but it's simply just... effin' great! A lovely beer to kick back with after a long day of housework.

A shout out to griffeyb for the AWESOME box he sent with this being one of the bottles in it!

Poured from a twelve ounce bottle into a tulip glass.

A- It pours a deep hazy orange with beautiful lacing sticking from the top of the glass and trailing all the way down.

S- Huge pine and citrus notes. Exactly what I would expect from the style.

T- A rush of hops dominate the first contact with the palate followed by a slightly mellowed sweet after taste. Very nice balance overall.

M- A good amount of carbonation that produces a pleasant tingle with the body to match.

O- A very very good imperial IPA. I feel like I could drink an entire six pack over a crawfish boil even at an ABV of 8.5%. One of the beast I have had.

Grapefruit and citrus rind dominate the taste. Taste is bitter, dry, and slightly oily. An above average imperial IPA, but I have had way better in the style. Would not turn down this beer, nor rush out to get it.

Growler from the brewery in Salisbury, MD. Into my Beer Geek Nation tulip glass.

Appearance (4.5/5): Clear, copper, lots of soapy off-white lacing on the glass. Looks like a textbook double IPA.

Smell (4.5/5): Massive dankness and tropical fruit notes of pineapple, mango, and grapefruit. This recipe is almost certainly drawing on some of the newer school hops to generate this thoroughly modern IPA aroma that leans heavily towards the tropical side, as opposed to the piney, highly bitter end of the hop spectrum that most old school IPAs would tap in to. Very impressive.

Taste (4.75/5): The hops are very juicy in the foretaste, with plenty of sweet, fruity grapefruit and pineapple notes. The massive hops are fairly well balanced by the sweet, yet dry malt backbone, which helps accentuate the hops and make them pop. The beer dries out nicely in the finish to a grapefruit pith-like flavor that is all bitterness. Lot 6 achieves an impressive complexity through it's seamless transition from flavor to flavor. This is a classic Double IPA being enjoyed the way it was meant to be--super fresh, straight from the brewery's tap.

Mouthfeel (4/5): Smooth initially, though the beer is exceptionally dry in the aftertaste. The carbonation is at a very nice medium level. It has kept well in the growler so far.

Overall (4.5/5): Evolution has really hit on a special recipe, one that offers an excellent amount of complexity. While this beer is all about the hops, the different hop varieties do a great job of bringing different flavors and feels to the beer on its way across the tongue. An outstanding beer that hop heads will love.

Had on tap the Pickled Pig Pub for Delaware Beer Week.

A: Was served in a goblet. Lot 6 is golden yellow in color, with a very white one finger head. Nice retention and left some sticky lacing down the sides.

S: Lots of tropical fruits, some grapefruit, pineapple, and mango. There is a little bit of pine, and really not much malt in the aroma. Slight hints of alcohol.

T: Over the top hop flavors. More citrus, with mostly grapefruit and some pineapple as well as a very nice grassy flavor. The hops are quite sharp and impart a good amount of bitterness. It is cut slightly by some bready malt on the backend.

M: Medium to full bodied, with a little bit of a alcohol, but not detrimental to the beer at all. Very crisp.

O: One of my favorite Evolution beers, too bad it is only on tap as of now, hopefully they will bottle it at some point. Have also had it Randallized with mint and grapefruit juice which was a nice touch to this beer as well.

Lovely DIPA, bottle from Capone’s. Orange bodied with some retained head. Smooth, above average and relatively smooth mouthfeel(though a little grapefruit acid in finish). Rich, complex, lots of fruit: apricot, mango, orange. Very hoppy aroma. A well crafted DIPA.

A - orange with a thick, pillowy, white head that has decent retention

S - sweet malt, big citrusy hops, faint spiciness

T - grapefruit, orange peel, pineapple, sweet malt, piny bitter finish

M - medium bodied, some alcohol wamrth, well carbonated

This is a really nice, big, bold, hoppy DIPA. The hops are ever present and intense. They're citrusy and bitter. I wish there just a tad more malt backbone for support, but the malt is noticeable and enjoyable. In the end this is really a solid offering, and I kind of wish I had a few more to enjoy.
