Poured from a 750 ml brown bottle into a clear glass snifter. Bottle 1250 of 1400, Winter 2012 on label. Purchased at Wine Warehouse (Charlottesville, VA).

A: Very dark brown (but not black) with a small, short-lived cap of beige head with no lacing.

S: Nice barrel character with vanilla, light coconut and a wonderful dark fruit and caramel melange and a light sour note

T: A well-balanced beer with a strong base beer with a lot of caramel but some fig/date and rum raisin notes. There is a nice snap of dark caramel and tobacco character in the finish. The barrel notes are really enjoyable with a good but not overbearing dose of vanilla, coconut, and whiskey. Alcohol is pretty well hidden overall.

M: Smooth and low carbonation and easy to drink.

O: A really nice bourbon barrel strong ale -- a nice changeup from BB porters and stouts. Great beer from Evolution -- I hope they bring back a similar brew in the future.

S: Fairly strong oak, some dark fruits, touch of chocolate, raw oak.

L: Black, light tan head that dissipates.

T: Sweet, slightly roasty malt with a prominent oak presence. Bourbon flavor is fairly muted, taking a backseat to the oak. Finishes with some additional oak.

M: Medium bodied, medium low carbonation. Alcohol slightly warming.

Ok, but quite over-oaked, really took over all the other flavors.

750 mL bottle, 2012 #323 of 1400, poured into a tulip

A- Black with a large dark tan head that fades very quickly.

S- Bourbon, vanilla, molasses, toffee, some chocolate, raisins/dark fruits.

T- Bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, oak, roasted malts, a coffee like bitterness in the finish, dark fruits, there is some heat from the bourbon, but it isn't harsh.

S- Smooth, creamy, full body, well carbonated.

O- An other great barrel aged beer from Evolution. There is a good amount if bourbon and it is well balanced. I happy to say I have tried all vintages fairly fresh and the only one that had any issues was the 2010 because it was completely flat which hurt the taste. I really hope I am able to pick up more. And please remember this is kind of close to a bourbon barrel aged stout, but is not claiming to be one.
