Appearance 4.25: Really gorgeous, deep gold color to this brew. Head just OK; a little weak, actually. Lacing is the same: weak.
Smell 3.75: Subdued bouquet on this brew. What is there is nice: bright, clean pineapple with citrus and some light piney hop aroma.
Taste 4.5: Front is somewhat dry with a pleasant, mid-palate bitterness. Middle is also dry, but this is where an amazingly light wave of hops comes in: blends of pine, citrus and just plain (but pleasant) bitterness. Finish is a revelation: candied citrus mingled with pine and mild malty sweetness. This carries over into the Aftertaste, which lasts a good ten seconds and also has a very nice alcohol warmth to it.
Mouthfeel 4.25: Great balance and everything is restrained right into the mid-palate level. Impressive display of brewing acuity.
Overall 4.5: Excellent beer. Big, meaty, but sessionable. really no hint of the massive 10% ABV. Lots of hops and that lovely "pineapple" taste so common with great Double IPAs. The only drawback is the slightly subdued Smell, which is certainly not off-putting, just a little noticeable. I would highly recommend this beer to all fans of IPAs and DIPAs.

Notes from 2015-16.
12oz bottle into a pint glass.
L: Pours a bright sparkling amber/orange, thick eggshell white head, some lacing. Fine looking good carbonation.
S: Mango, pine, light citrus, light alcohol.
T: Bold bitter pine, spruce, grassy, lime/orange zest, grapefruit, pineapple, sweet caramel, biscuit, apricot, mango. It is lightly tart. There is light alcohol in the taste as the beer warms.
F: Med-heavy mouthfeel with a lingering long and quite drying finish.
O: This is the best tasting American Double IPA that I've ever had. It is alluring and full bodied with rich smooth flavors. It drinks easily for it's higher ABV and it is outstanding in it's style.

Reminded of this beer by the How many Beers of Fame have you reviewed? post. Reviewed from memory, as I have not had this in a while, but have had at least a six pack before. Was not a huge fan, tastes good, but too boozy.

Had an 8-oz pour at their tasting room in San Diego's Little Italy (See My Review). The body is a sparkling amber color crowned by a thick and splotchy head, which produces a gummy lacing around the glass rim. The nose consists of a whiff of mango. There is an initial blast of hoppy bitterness that is supplemented by a lingering malty fade with an unbalanced sweetness. At the finish, there is a dryness that will require some water. Still, not bad.
