Poured from a Ballast Point 22oz bomber into a North Coast nonic pint.
This brew cuts a very pleasing figure. Clear, straw yellow liquid crowned with a solid two fingers of white sudsy foam. This guy looks like PTE to me and I'm excited to progress.
A really unique fruity bouquet hits my nose. Oblong hints of pineapple and citrus hints of orange and slight chunks of grapefruit round out the olfactory picture. A bit surprised about the lack of piney notes, perhaps the dry hopped citrus and fruity hops drown out the more subtle hop flavors.
Crisp, refreshing mouthfeel. There is a dryness that I am frankly surprised by. The hop oil is almost nonexistent. Decent carb bite mixed with a surprisingly light body make for an almost effervescent DIPA. Really intriguing.
The crispness of this brew is really impressive. The light malt characteristics is acceptable considering the unique hop profile. The fruit esters are insane, pina colada extreme met with smooth orange hits of citrus goodness, I get little pine notes, however. I could use a bit more body to remind me that I'm drinking a DIPA, and to protect from a curiously acidic aftertaste.
This DIPA, with its light body, high ABV and easy drinking properties makes for a dangerous drinking partner. The aftertaste is a little distracting, but ultimately a highly drinkable brew.

Notes from 2015-16.
12oz bottle into a pint glass.
L: Pours a bright sparkling amber/orange, thick eggshell white head, some lacing. Fine looking good carbonation.
S: Mango, pine, light citrus, light alcohol.
T: Bold bitter pine, spruce, grassy, lime/orange zest, grapefruit, pineapple, sweet caramel, biscuit, apricot, mango. It is lightly tart. There is light alcohol in the taste as the beer warms.
F: Med-heavy mouthfeel with a lingering long and quite drying finish.
O: This is the best tasting American Double IPA that I've ever had. It is alluring and full bodied with rich smooth flavors. It drinks easily for it's higher ABV and it is outstanding in it's style.

Reminded of this beer by the How many Beers of Fame have you reviewed? post. Reviewed from memory, as I have not had this in a while, but have had at least a six pack before. Was not a huge fan, tastes good, but too boozy.

Had an 8-oz pour at their tasting room in San Diego's Little Italy (See My Review). The body is a sparkling amber color crowned by a thick and splotchy head, which produces a gummy lacing around the glass rim. The nose consists of a whiff of mango. There is an initial blast of hoppy bitterness that is supplemented by a lingering malty fade with an unbalanced sweetness. At the finish, there is a dryness that will require some water. Still, not bad.
