I poured this into a snifter since that is my favorite glass for IPAs, I know it isn't quite right but oh well.

Appearance - It is golden/amber, really beautiful hue typical Imperial look to it. I gave it a pretty aggressive pour that led to a head that lingered for a bit. Eventually it went away though.

Smell - I kind of get a fruity/sugary smell initially but maltiness really takes over pretty fast. I like the bready smell though.

Taste - The balance is pretty much perfect, the malty sweetness versus the hop bitter, it is nice. The immediate aftertaste is a little pungent for me though, only really detract able I can say about it.

Mouthfeel - Very smooth, that's all I can say.

Overall - It's not Pliny the Elder which I really like but it is in the same ballpark. That being said I am more partial to American Barleywines than Imperial IPAs so that kind of influences my opinion.

Poured from a 650 ml bottle into Dogfish IPA glass.

A: Dark golden/very light amber hue. Pours 2+ finger, frothy, white head. Settles, very slowly. Uneven, pock marked, blanket remains along with a trail of dry sticky residue.

S: Pine cone, citrus, honey, and butterscotch. Very floral and liquory.

T: Really hoppy, with a pungent sourdough. Bitter pecan shell. A bit of lemon pith, tree bark.

M: Thick and hearty. Strong boozy feel. Pungent, dry finish.

D: Sip and enjoy.

Atmosphere is really strong. Dark hue, large frothy head, and plenty of persistent lacing. Nose is floral pine, with sweet and citrus. Really hoppy and pungent, with some bitter pecan and citrus. Overall, this is a really good quaff.

Reviewed from notes. Poured from bomber into a Russian River pint glass.

A: Pours a very hazy orangish-gold. A thin white head forms but fades quickly. Low visible carbonation.

S: Hmmm…this smells a bit oxidized. Mostly bready and caramel malt sweetness, some citrus rind and resin hops.

T: Orange citrus up front, then caramel sweetness, bready malts with toffee flavors, resin and floral bitterness, with a touch of cardboard oxidation through the whole drink. Mildly bitter in the hang.

M: Medium body, alcohol noticeable but not overdone, and carbonation on the low side.

O: This isn't particularly good, but not terrible objectionable. It does taste kind of old. I'll re-review with a fresher bottle if there are significant changes.
