Well, hell...thanks to Dan from Marty's for informing me of this new arrival. This is one I've been jonesing for and it's finally touched down amongst the Massholes. For this hop bomb it's the Reidel Vinum Cabernet glass. Gizzit a tumble...
Pours a little lighter than expected...almost light lemon/honey. Head on first pour isn't bad...about 1/2 finger, but it goes pretty quickly. Moderate lacing; sparse carbonation rises rather quickly through the viscosity of it all.
Holy $#!+ - wonderful, uber-hopped citrusy, oily, grapefruity goodness. Past the grapefruit I'm even picking off a little pineapple here. Caramel malt with a gentle perfume provides at least a little balance. Still the hops are on parade and it's next-nigh perfect.
The viscous oily hops rule the roost of course, but they blend perfectly with the light caramel malt. Balance in abundance, most definitely...with a brightness and freshness that comes very clean.
Can't hate on this one for the palate - this is what a big IPA should be like. Huge hop presence on the citrus front with a tight yet somehow balanced finish.
It's tough for this not to drink well. It drinks very well. And now I gotta dig up more of this stuff. Knock it down quickly though - don't let these hops fade in your cellar. Excellent stuff.
