Poured from a bottle into a Stone enjoy by pint glass

Appearance: Pale amber, slight haze, one and a half finger of frothy marshmallow head. Only a little lacing which I was a little disappointed in.

Smell: Pretty much just like you had a handful of hops and crushed them in your hand and then took a deep breath. A little citrus and pine but 99.9% is hops.

Taste: WOW. I am not the biggest IPA fan but this beer just blew me away in the taste category. The first sip is like biting into a juicy orange/mango/pineapple/grape fruit hybrid. Gradually the hops and grapefruit begin to take over with some pine and malts also detectable. Absolutely amazing flavor, that is all you need to know.

Mouthfeel: Great carbonation, nice dryish finish, no alcohol burn.

Overall: This is my new favorite IPA for sure. Only complaints that I find is the lack of lacing and maybe wish the citrus came through a little more in the smell.

From Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia. Bottle has no freshness date. That is not a good idea for an IPA.

Clear orangey yellow, lots of carbonation, white head with various bubble sizes, reduces to a thin layer, leaves lacing.

Hmmm, smell is not very strong. Disappointing for a highly rated American IPA. Is it too old? Well at least it was refrigerated. There is this yellow fruit aroma that leans toward apricot. Pleasant but rather one dimensional.

There is a little caramel malt sweetness. Good and not overpowering bitterness. Lingering resiny aftertaste, but not overly pleasant.

Body is rather thin for an IPA. Carbonation is refreshing but not biting. Warming alcohol but still quite refreshing.

I am confused. This is not what I expected from a highly rated IPA. My preferences of a stronger malty backbone aside, I am disappointed of the lack of hops complexity. In no way this beer is bad, but also not exciting enough to get a higher rating.

Nice american IPA of a somewhat transparent orange color with some amber tones and an ok foam.
Smell is hoppy and extremely citric, with a lot of orange tones.
Taste is more complex. Really hoppy and citric; orange, grapefruit and specially (but not easy to distinguish) fig are the flavour highlights. Taste is also highly bitter. Maltiness is not hidden yet the beer seems too much juicy.
Body and carbonation are at good level but could be higher.
Alcohol is quite well balanced.
