a fun surprise from a trade with acurtis - thanks man! poured from a bomber into a Deschutes imperial pint glass. not sure about when it was bottled - there is some mark on the bottle, but it's pretty obscured.
pours a pretty transparent dandelion-head yellow/orange with a nice amount of white head that leaves nice globs of lace on the glass. the aroma is a bit more muted than i was expecting, but orange peel, grapefruit, and spruce are right up front.
the taste is a sweet navel orange with candied grapefruit peel and resinous hops, and a good balance of a lasting orange sweetness on the tongue while the hops stay bitter in the back of the throat. it's nice, and I'm guessing this is really a great beer when very fresh.
the mouthfeel is a bit sticky with some residue, but works well with the hop/fruit sugar balance in the taste. overall it's a very enjoyable ipa - not a standout gold medal, although perhaps when very fresh, but still heads and shoulders above many on the market and one i would gladly reach for on a warm day.
