12oz bottle received in trade from G311. thanks vince! ive been looking forward to this one for a while now. drank from my samuel adams perfect pint glass.
A- the beer pours out a somewhat hazy glowing orange colored body with a tall bright white head on top. the head takes its time falling and leaves behind complete rings of lacing. very nice.
S- woah, hoppy. grapefruit and pine erupt from my glass. some floral notes also. caramel malts can be picked up towards the end and add a mild sweetness and malty backbone.
T- the taste starts out with more of the caramel malts that i could smell. they try to add some balance, but they come up short. the hops are just too much. very bitter. lots of grapefruit. lots of pine. much less floral notes. west coast all the way.
M- medium bodied and well carbonated. palate wreckingly bitter. alcohol is well hidden.
O- this is a great IPA that has earned the hype/following. if this was available locally i would be all over it. check it out if you get the chance.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a tulip glass. The label lists the abv at 7% abv.
Appearance: It has a clear golden body with lots of visible carbonation. The builds up tall and thick with a just off white head. This head quickly faded out on me making next to no lacing.
Smell: There is a bid hop presence here with loads of citrusy and piney hop notes.
Taste / Palate: The first few sips I mostly got loads of pine like and some citrusy grapefruit and lemon rind flavor notes. As I drank on and the beer warms more peach like fruit notes and maltiness comes out. The finish is all hop bitterness which lingers for some time. The body and carbonation feel spot on and I can see why Sculpin IPA is so highly rated.
Notes: Classic West coast IPA!!!
