swnicholson is once again the man for tossing this in.
A: Pours a hazy orange cold that looks closer to champagne near the narrow portion of the glass. Foamy, bubbly orange-tinted head that leaves sticky lacing as it falls to just a cover and a ring.
S: Huge tropical aromas; oranges; mangos; lemon, and bananas; something tangy/funky as well. Nice bisquetty malt aromas as well, you can smell a bit of depth and creaminess here.
T: Much of the nose mingles somewhere in the flavor, but again these flavors are more tropical than citric. The malt is sweet and creamy but balanced by a bitter hop finish. There's some citrus to the hops, but sweet fruit flavors still prevail.
D: A tad lighter than the nose would imply, but that's not a bad thing. A healthy medium body brew with moderate carbonation. Really smooth with a hint of creaminess.
M: A really well harmonized beer, one of the better ones. The lighter body is a plus too; it's refreshing without being too weighty. Good flavors of the tropics.

Poured from a bottle into a KC Pils glass from Boulevard Brewing Co., Kansas City, MO.
This beer came highly recommended from a local craft brew shop. I didn't even check the BA ratings before I purchased it. Wow, with ratings like this, it must be good!
... and it is. I can categorically say that this is one of the best IPAs I've ever tried. I am looking forward to trying all of the other beers from Ballast Point.
A: A thick, cloudy amber-gold with a deliciously thick and well-retained head. Wonderful lacing potential with some amount of settling on the top of the beer. Well carbonated when poured well.
S: Rich of hops and toasted malts covered with citrus, pine, pepper and a hint of what I think smells like peach. Wonderfully fragrant and rich.
T: A powerful punch of hops with a light malty goodness on top of big citrus flavors. Peach, orange, mango come to mind. Estimated IBU of about 70-75. Perfect sweet spot for an IPA. Crisp bite with a thick texture on top. To me this is a perfect IPA - hoppy with malts and some citrus and nothing overpowering. Well balanced tartness, sweetness and bitterness. Aftertaste is extremely mild and not unpleasant (big bonus). 7.0% ABV is hidden by the hops and abundant flavors. Wonderful beer.
M: Thick and rich but not overpowering. It has a good bite from the hops and carbonation. Easy to drink for a 7.0% ABV beer.
O: This is one lovely beer. It's on my top 5 IPAs and earned a lot of expect from me for Ballast Point brewery. If someone wanted me to suggest an IPA, I think this is the perfect blueprint of the type. It's not overpowering and too bitter like some heavy IPAs or doubles, the alcohol level is high but reasonable, the flavors mingle perfectly and it has a wonderful balance of carbonation, sweetness, bitterness and virtually no unpleasant aftertastes. Big big props to Ballast Point on this award winner.
