Pours a clear, pale amber color. Two finger head with good retention. Sparse, but nice and intricate lace curtains adorn the glass. Pungent, fruity, floral aroma. Even though this bottle is only 4 weeks old, if the info on https://sites.google.com/site/freshbeeronly/u-s-breweries is still up to date, it doesn't seem as aromatic as previous bottles I've had. Still, there's a lot to enjoy here. Well integrated tropical fruit, citrus rind, and sap.
Wonderfully bitter from start to finish. Moderately dry with a steady malt undercurrent that never overshadows the hop notes. Bitter citrus rind is prominent. Very quaffable for a bold IPA. Texture is oily and sudsy, with just a bit of a prickliness from the carbonation shortly after the pour.
More than the sum of its parts, Sculpin lives up to its billing as an elite IPA. For lack of a better term, it's more "drinkable" than other 7%-8% IPAs, though also more expensive.
