This beer tastes like how you would expect a San Diego IPA to taste like. Lots of big citrus flavors. Mainly grapefruit I would say. Not much malt going on. 7% ABV isn't too hot either. Good mouthfeel as the bitterness doesn't scorch the tongue or palate. A very solid IPA. Not the best you can find in San Diego or even SoCal for that matter but a solid choice nonetheless. I was very glad to find it at Brewforia in Meridian, Idaho. So thanks to them for getting it fresh to a relatively small market. Cheers Ballast Point!

22 oz bottle poured into an IPA glass. Enjoy by date of 10/10. Consumed on 9/14.
A - Poured less than a finger of head that quickly dissipated. Golden amber in color with readily apparent carbonation. Clear/no cloudiness. Yields significant delicate lacing as beer recedes.
S - Fragrant. Tropical fruit, honey, and pine. Very dank.
T - Taste and complexion of this beer changed dramatically as it warmed. Initially dominated by lemon, with hints of honey, mango, and pine with a hoppy bitter finish. However, as the beer warmed, the flavors really came out... peach, melon, and an intense grapefruit finish. Hides ABV very well.
M - Higher level of carbonation accompanies taste well, and is very fitting for mouthfeel as well. Liquid tingles tongue nicely and has a crisp feel. Medium bodied and yields a slight foam in the mouth.
O - No denying this is a very good beer, among the best of year-round nationally available IPA's. However, beer is overpriced. $10.99 for a 22oz bottle or $16.99 for a 6-pack is borderline absurd. Really enjoy it, but will not purchase very often until the price comes down...

Poured into pint glass.
A Copper. Transparent. Thick white foam.
S Hops. Caramel malt. Very floral.
T Ahh this is nice. Hoppy as hell. Right up front the hops hit you. Nice and bitter with a kick of citrus and pine.
M Good body. Nice refreshing finish.
O First time for me. Not the last. Really well crafted IPA. Good and bitter but not overdone. The mix of flavors is great. So glad Ballast Point is in Minnesota.

Nearly flawless appearance for an IPA. Big billowing white head with fantastic retention, lace-city, over an orange amber beer.
Smell is really nice. Citrus, oranges like marmalade, ripe peaches and mangos, a hint of green papaya, rounded out by a soft note of caramel and earth.
Taste opens with grapefruit pith bitterness, then distinct juicy tangerine-oranges finally plunging headlong into a pungent almost musky woody-citrus back end which is more noticeable as it warms a little. If I have to nitpick, the body seems a wee bit thinnish. Finish is clean and lightly bitter.
I finished one and am moving on to another just to verify what I've written here. Yep, it's pretty dang good.
