I picked up a 12 ounce bottle of this from City Swiggers on the Upper East Side. I don't remember the date on the bottle but my guess is this fresh was entirely at its freshest. After reading several reviews and seeing the "world class" status this beer has, I see that it's almost an entirely different beer when you can consume it very fresh. That being said, I enjoyed this but don't see what all of the fuss is about.
It's definitely a hop bomb to the nose. Lots and lots of tropical fruits also. On the taste, it's a bit bitter right off the bar but eventually opens to some sweetness. It finishes with more bitterness and some grapefruit.
I was alittle dissappionted with this beer. It tasted good but wasn't close to the classic I was expecting. Ill give it another shot though.

From a 12 oz can into a wine glass. Reviewed from notes dated August 30, 2013.
A-A normal pour produces about one and one-half fingers of sticky, off-white head. The brew is orange-golden in color and clear. Retention is pour, but some lace is left behind.
S-This is a juicy beer. I get peach and sweet (tropical) citrus flavors with very little bitterness. The doughy, bready malts merely add to the juicy smell. Different from a typical supercharged, bittered-up IPA, but not terribly inspiring or complex.
T-The taste is similar to the smell with lots of juicy fruit...peaches, mango, and orange citrus are all represented. The malts are pale, mild, and doughy. Balance is good here with the hops being flavorful without being aggressive.
M-The feel is soft, with a moderate, slightly oily body.
O-I am somewhat disappointed. The juicy fruit flavors are pleasant, but I found them to be a bit one-dimensional. Not to say that this beer is not a good IPA, it is above average actually, but it is not the world-beater I was expecting. Perhaps my can was old and the complexity had faded or perhaps it really is just a case of setting unrealistic expectations, but there are better IPAs in California and elsewhere.

On tap at another hipster heaven - Chapter One, Santa Ana, CA.
Did Raul just get himself in on this? Yep, it looks like he did!
Raul done had himself Sculpin many times over like Lindsay Lohan has had rehab visits. Only difference between Sculpin and that podunk ginger is that Raul will keep up with his daily Sculpin regime.
Clean, crisp, and devilishly intoxicating. Line another one up. Yep!

I cannot write anything better about this beer than any other entry you may find about it. It is a perfectly balanced IPA. Bitter, citrusy, slight malt sweetness, crisp...DELICIOUS. Stop worrying about rankings and start trusting your taste buds. This beer is world class.
