I have had it on tap and from the bottle. Similar tasting experience. Lots of hop flavors throughout, while staying smooth even with quite a bite from all those hops. No malt noticed. If you like hops, this is excellent. But as another reviewer noted, there are other very good IPAs that will cost a lot less.
Full disclosure: I find many IPAs to be so hoppy I think I could bite into a fresh hop and chase it with cold water and get the same taste.

bought as a single serve establishment in a train station, payed $8 for one! expected alot for $8 needed alot for $8, drank out of bottle, beer had a steady hop balance, on this particular drink tasted as a straight IPA, not much on additional flavoring but again drank from bottle with bag wrapped around. this is limiting no doubt, this was however very pricey

What a delicious brew! This beer is very close to my favourite IPA (Fat Tug) in taste, aroma and feel. More head, retention, lacing and paler colour though. Living in British Columbia (Canada), I have a much greater accessibility tot he Fat Tug and don't have to pay as much for it. The Sculpin cost me 23.50$ CAN for a six pack. Never paid that much for a beer but I really wanted to try it because of its great reviews. Now I see why, it is in fact one of the greatest IPA's I had the opportunity to drink.

Nice clear gold orange pour with tight-bubbled head.

Aromas of juicy grapefruit, with a touch of really sharp pine.

Tastes just like it smells, with maybe a little spiciness added.

Overall, really nice. Tons of hop flavor. Complex, and delicious.

Appearance - This poured a nice brownish-orange in color with a white head that rose up nicely and left some good lacing.

Smell - The hops here are very raw and fresh. The pine is all over the place almost completely drowning out the orangish aromas that you'd expect from the hop combination. Also, in the truest sense of the style, there is little malt to the nose.

Taste - Again, this is pure to the style. The malt is very much in the background of this flavor profile. The hops are incredibly fresh, almost like it's dry-hopped, and offer just enough orange sweetness to smooth out the raw edge to this beer.

Mouthfeel - This medium-bodied IPA is incredibly smooth considering the massive hop flavors and is just slightly dry.

Drinkability - The lack of a giant dry finish keeps this IPA going down like water. This is easily one of the smoothest most drinkable "big hop" IPAs that I've ever had.

Refreshing like drinking a cold glass of lemonade or sweet tea in a hit Georgia summers day. I typically give average smell rating for beers as I'm never impressed but here I am. Small fluffy head. Nice orange Amber color. Not bitter, more hops. I feel there is one more character of hops the beer should have(something bolder) but it is great the way it tastes now.

Look and smell were a little underwhelming, but taste more than made up for it. A little disappointed how the linger went away so quickly, but then was pleasantly surprised as to how it returned. One of the more enjoyable IPA's I've had, but at $16.00 for a six pack of 12 ounce bottles, I will stick with those other few I enjoy as much, but whose price is easier to swallow.

L -- Pours a coppery-gold with a fair white head that reduces to a ring around the edge. Slight lacing at first.

S -- Dank, grass, pine, citrus.

T -- First hit is pine and resin, some floral and grassy notes follow up, then dank comes in mid palate, and bitter takes it out through the end. With warmth, the citrus shows up stronger, mostly in the mid/end notes. The dankness also mellows out a bit, turns into herbal and earthy notes. There's also a sweetness to it that keeps it from being a hopbomb.

F -- Crisp, good bitterness, a little resin leftover.

O -- Good overall beer. Lots of dynamics in flavortown and they meld well together, none overpowering, each contributing in its own way.

poured a darker orange into the glass with two fingers of foam that lingered
smell a lot of tropical fruit, mango?, citrus
taste - fruity with a hint of pine, bitterness on the back end
mouthfeel - medium carb, medium bodied, pretty refreshing beer
overall - a solid IPA. wish we had these out in MO, but with frequent trips to chicago and CA, i get my hands on sculpins when I can. i do prefer the grapefruit sculpin, which is odd because i dont love grapefruit.

One of the best IPAs I've ever tasted. A mouthful of flavor. First tried at the Yard House in West Palm Beach. If there is a perfect beer, this is close.

A very approachable IPA for amount of hop it carries, with lots of depth of flavour and a very dry finish.
S- Its sweet on the nose, with hints of rye bread and apricot.
T- Subtle and complex this beer goes through the full typical ipa fruit spectrum but carries nice cardamon, cumin and butterscotch as well. The hop is in the middle allowing time for a sweetness fresh finish that prevents any of the cloying build up that many hop-heavy ipa's have.
F: Very dry, light but not thin.

This slightly hazy, slightly sparkling pale-amber beer briefly sports a medium, slightly pebbly white head that leaves fair rafts and ladders of lacing. On the nose, it presents a good blend of strong citrus and pine, with less intense florals and a hint of pineapple. The flavor hops follow the aroma, with pine and a moderately-bitter citrus sitting atop a solid slightly-sweet bready malt foundation. The finish is slightly bitter, followed by the onset of a clinging hop bitterness that is moderate for the style both in terms of intensity and duration. Mouthfeel is a bit bigger than one might expect, and the texture is moderately creamy and peppery from the fizzy carbonation.

Very well done IPA. Piney nose, golden clear in color, and very tasty. I love all the new iterations of they are releasing as well. Grapefruit Sculpin has become a favorite of mine.

From a 12oz bottle.
It has been a few years since my last Sculpin ,its not eazy to find in Canada.
Poured a clear Amber with a wonderful pine floral nose.
Nice white head with good lacing.
Citrus pine on the tongue exactly what a great IPA should be.

Cloudy orange-yellow color. Not overly bitter like most IPAs makes it fairly easy to drink. Slight after-taste, but nothing really bad about it. Overall a good beer.

Bomber with code 15091 poured into a pint glass.

Pours a golden orange in color with minimal white head that quickly dissipates to nothing, no lacing. Hoppy aroma. Lots of citrus; some lemon, grapefruit, and peach. Taste is much like the aroma, very clean, lots of hops upfront with a solid bitterness and a slight malty sweetness in the background. Good mouthfeel with medium body and carbonation. Overall this is a great IPA, very drinkable, a beer I keep coming back to.

Serving: Can into tulip
Served: 25 August 2015

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden color with some slight copper notes. Looks somewhat like rose gold but definitely not as pink/red. The haze gives the beer depth, for sure, but looks a bit weird around the edges, as it lightens the profile and looks somewhat funky. Minus points there, but nothing crazy.

Smell: Bright citrus hop notes, as you would expect from a West Coast brewery. Grapefruit, pine, lemon, and cajeput all present in the nose.

Taste: Much like the nose, but with a detectably sweet malt base to back it up. Refreshingly bitter, which bucks the trend against super sweet, 'juicy' IPAs, which I'm happy to see.

Mouthfeel: Medium to medium-high body with medium carbonation. Very refreshing, but definitely feels bigger on the palate than smaller IPAs.

Overall: A great IPA from a great brewery, but nothing that'll stand out from the pack. Given that this and Grapefruit Sculpin are the same price here in Boston (~$14/sixer), I'll stick with the Grapefruit Sculpin, which I find more intriguing for the money.

This beer really surprised me in a good way. Its seems to get its due respect here but in my circle most had given it a thumbs down. I'm with the thumbs up crowd on this one. Very nice citrus note. Its pours light and drinks easy. Not the smoothest beer but very flavorfull. Definitly a beer better enjoyed in the summer. Its the summer ale of IPAs. Well done Ballast Point.

Underwhelmed. Traded for this with a Gray Sail Brewing Captain's Daughter. Granted, the Sculpin had been sitting in a hot car over the weekend, therefore I want to give it another shot ASAP.

Poured into trusty glass mug. Slightly cloudy amber colour with quickly dissipating white head. Smells of smooth hops with a hint of citrus. The taste is an excellent balance of hops, slight citrus, and just enough piney/grassy to compliment. Goes down easy. This has got to be one of the best Cali IPA's out there. I love it.

This only recently came into distribution here in Maine, and I was hooked immediately. Crisp and hoppy, but rounded with a dry citrus taste. This has become my go to IPA in a six pack, 12 oz. cans available too, perfect for summer outings. Fantastic.

I know this beer is supposed to be one of the better IPA's out there, and I would agree to some extent. It is nicely balanced for an IPA - just hoppy, piney, and citrusy enough. But I wasn't necessarily overwhelmed with it. It was a good IPA but I think I'm to the point where I'm at IPA overload and can only tell if an IPA is bad.

This is probably the best go-to beer at the gas station. Widely distributed and always consistent on taste. A bit malty for my liking but definitely one of the best dollar values in the craft.

A 22 fl oz bomber with a bottled code date of 15063 which means 4th March 2015, and poured into a Spiegelau IPA glass.

Appearance: The beer poured a very nice clear golden orange colour with a two and a half finger white head that dissipates slowly leaving a thin foamy layer and thick lacing.

Aroma: Nice strong aromas with tropical mango and peach strongest followed by apricot, citrus orange and some pine.

Taste: Starts with citrus grapefruit and some light bready malts, followed by tropical fruits mainly mango, apricot and pineapple, hints of pine and finishes with bitter grapefruit once more.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with medium carbonation and very refreshing.

Overall: Stunning, absolutely loved it. One of the best IPA’s out there in my opinion. A definite must buy for me. And now I just need to try an even fresher version.
