One of my favorites from Ballast Point. I've probably had Fathom more than any of their other brews.

From a 22 into a Bruery tulip.

APPEARANCE: Clear, glowing bronze. About a half inch of head.

AROMA: Right away, it smells like an IPA. Grapefruit and orange stand out, a little bit of pine, and faint cereal grain.

TASTE: I can really taste the Ahtanum hops, which are used in the dry-hopping of this beer. They're well-balanced with modest, sweet malts. Faintly grassy.

MOUTHFEEL: Low-medium body - lighter than anticipated given the ABV. Perfectly carbonated.

FINISH: Refreshing hints of bitter citrus and floral hops, and sweet malts.

OVERALL: This is my favorite IPL, and I think it's the best example of the style I've ever had (though I've only ever had one other IPL - The Bruery's Humulus Lager). Fathom is a great, refreshing beer that I highly recommend to anyone.

90/100

Appearance: slightly hazy yellow. Full white head on the pour.
Smell: not a lot happening in the nose. Some piney, citrus notes but dulled at that. Pleasant enough.
Taste: more going here. A nice hoppy bite and an interesting "cleaner than an IPA" thing that I guess is attributable to the lagering? I guess this what an IPL is spose to taste like. Nice.
Overall: all in all an interesting and nicely done brew.

Appearance - Pours crystal clear and golden yellow in color with a white, 2-finger head. Fair retention gives way to a broken layer of suds with a nice ring around the edge of the glass.

Smell - Predominant mango aroma, along with touches of orange and pine.

Taste - Follows the nose. Orange and mango dominate upfront, but there's a distinct pine resin undertone throughout. Malt bill is clean and adds sweetness, but without a truly defining flavor. Finish is a nice orange zest character.

Mouthfeel - Light to medium body with fair, tingly carbonation. Crisp, clean finish.

Overall - One of the better IPL's I've had to date. For the price I paid, it's well worth a few more trips "into the Fathom".

This is a crisp beer. Definitely a lager or pilsner style beer. Color is light copper color, very similar to Yuengling really. Not a malt bomb but not really hoppy either. It was labeled as a IPA style lager. I don't detect that much hop in the flavors. Maybe I have had too many true IPA's but this one is not hoppy at all. It is very much a lager. I won't go through a full review. I will say that its a decent beer but like so many craft breweries that make stuff that is away from a good IPA or Stout that they are known for it just is not worth the price difference. When you can get a 12 pack of adjunct lager 12 oz cans for maybe a couple of bucks more. Like I said this beer reminds me a lot of Yeungling and was only two dollars less than the local grocery chain has a 12 pack on sale for this week.
