Sea Monster pours flat black, with a very small, light tan head on top. The foam disappears quickly leaving behind a few spots of lace on the glass.
The aroma isn't as strong as I thought it would be. Notes of oak, vanilla, roasted malt and pine.
Each sip of this full bodied beer is chewy, smooth with mild carbonation. The rich flavor is loaded with roasted malt, chocolate, toffee and dark fruit. It finishes moderately bitter with a hoppy flavor of fine. Once gone the roasted malt, some medicinal flavors and alcohol lingers on the palate.
This beer aged for months in my cellar before I decided to drink it. Even with time to mellow the alcohol heat is still present. Still, it's tasty with a nice mouthfeel.
