Picked this up about a year and a half ago while on a trip to Boone, NC. Review is from notes taken on 8/17/2012 and poured from the bottle to a snifter.

Appearance: Pour, looks a touch thin on the pour; color is deep and dark coffee brown, near black; starts with a full one finger, dark tan and creamy looking head that fades to a thin, uneven and nearly; body is dark, pretty much opaque;

Smell: A tad weak, not what I would expect from an "Imperial Stout..." It's got some nice roastiness going on in there and bit of a bitter, piny hoppiness, just not big and robust with a lot of warm chocolate malts -- smells more like a porter.

Taste: Taste is better than the smell lets on, so that's positive; has a nice earthy and roasty bitterness, like expresso beans, and there is; piny hoppiness is in there as well, with perhaps a touch of citric acid; the nice bonus is that there is some chocolate in there; overall, if it was a porter, I'd probably give it a better score. Alas, it's posing as an Imperial Stout.... so that's going to bring that down a little bit.

Mouthfeel: This beer has some ups and downs to it, but mouth is solid -- pretty creamy, body leaves a little weight to be desired; a moderate; there is a nice coating left behind, it's semi dry and a bit sticky on the teeth.

Overall: I give it a B, but it's a generous B.

A new entry to the Minnesota market. And a cold spell in April feels like the perfect time for a stout. Tasted 18 April 2014.

Pours black and thick. Half-finger of medium-tan head, dense. Good retention and lacing. Lovely.

Smell is rich, potent, and chocolatey. Has a fluffy sweetness behind that, reminds me of oats or lactose. Nice.

Taste is really good, though not quite on the level of the smell. The character of the smell is there, but there's also a sharp pinch of bitterness and char.

Feel is outstanding. Chewy and thick, but fluffy. The carbonation is like fuzz, bringing a gentle buzz to things, making the flavors dance. Perhaps the best texture in a stout that I've encountered.

This is my kind of stout. Thick, rich, and flavorful, with sweetness and chocolate backed by full, chewy roasts. Yum.

Black in color with no reddening around the edges and a finger of coffee colored head. The nose has a roasted malt character that takes on coffee and burnt toast notes, plus strong alcohol and a hint of dark fruit. It has a dark chocolate taste with char, coffee, berries, grapes, and bitter hops on the back end. There's a burning sensation from the alcohol, which is 10% by volume and very much apparent in the beer. It may not sound like it all works together, but it does. Goes down silky with a medium body.
