a pretty solid black with finger of tan head with great retention. smells of licorice, toasted grains, coffee, chocolate, subtle smoke. the taste is sweet with a note of subtle smokyness. a very light tasting stout with subtle notes of chocolate and licorice, big on the roasty bitterness of the grains. medium body but for the heaviness of the beer it' feels slightly watered down.. low carbonation.
overall this isn't a bad stout at all, but as far as a RIS, i'm not that impressed. it is fairly sweet which is good but lacks a lot of complexity for the style. the abv is well hidden though, which is a plus.
