A-pours black with a thin light brown head that dissipates quickly. Not much lacing to speak of.
S-smells of dark fruits and sweet malts. Some roasty notes too.
T-alcohol up front. Bittersweet chocolate. Not very complex tasting.
M-low carbonation. Sticky and syrupy, but not super thick body.
O-Dissapointing. A couple other Ballast Point brews I've had gave me high hopes for this one. I would not buy this again. Bummer.

I enjoyed this on-tap at The Sidecar in Philadelphia.

Appearance is black with short tan head to it. Taking a whiff and I smell coffee, vanilla, chocolate and roasted malts. Its` taste has more of the coffee and roasted malts, well balanced, some more chocolate. Really, the balance is very well executed, not over-powering in any aspects of the flavor. Mouthfeel is full, a clean finish. I waited too long to try this, an excellent imperial stout.

Tulip

A - Deep almost sludgy black/brown, half finger tan head and some sticky lacing

S - creamy sweetness, vanilla bean, sugar, tons of roasted malts, coca, milk chocolate, light but nice coffee, sweet yeast, sweet malts, awesome crisp earthy hop note, very sweet berries and cherries and a nice slight alcohol note

T - Deep dark berries, a really nice coffee note, creamy smoothness, super awesome fruity hop note, nice milk and dark chocolate, french vanilla bean, overly sweet yeast note, huge sweet malt, huge roasted malt and grains, awesome very slight but makes the stout booze, nice wood, slight anise, some serious earth and a hint of cherry

M - Full bodied, well balanced, full complexity, low acidity and a wonderful long finish

D/O - I love this stout. I believe a bit underrated. Never had it on tap, heard it is a 1000x better, but I am loving it out of the bottle. Nice and robust, but not overwhelming. Creamy delicious and refreshing. Not a huge beer but bigger than a lot of stouts

Final Thoughts - Only $7 a pop and a great 10% abv and just and all around top notch stout

On-tap at the Cask Republic into an oversized snifter.

A: Opaque black body with a finger of creamy light brown head. Great retention and lacing. Excellent.

S: Chocolate malt, spicy alcohol, and some dark fruits. Solid.

T: Roasty dark chocolate, some coffee, plenty of dark fruit, and some vanilla. Char, booze, and dark chocolate on the finish. Nice.

M: Medium body, lively carbonation. Good.

O: This one was intense and enjoyable, but didn't quite get beyond "good" into truly "great." I'd gladly drink it again, but I won't be buying bottles.

Cheers!

A fairly limited release here on the east coast, I grabbed a bottle as soon as I saw it. Looks good, nice and dark. Plenty of roasted malts, but nothing too bold or intense. For lack of a better term, it's just kinda thin I think.

I'll give it another try in the future, but for now my review is just "meh"

Deep black Color brown highlights. Faint nose of chocolate and coffee. Mild charcoal and licorice. Faint nail polish.

Much lighter than expected and highly carbonated. Lots of chocolate sweetness throughout especially upfront. Faint caramel as well as a very subdued smokiness. Dark fruits come out as the beer warms. Black coffee and hop bitterness provide good balance. Mildly tannic. Medium body.

Well crafted and a good beer but doesn't stand out amongst the crowd. Could benefit from a bigger and creamier body. Liking the tanning quality though.

Let's do it again. Coming out of the 22 ounce bottle, on to the beer:

As expeced, this imperial stout is black as black. The head on top is slightly tannned in color, retains quite well, and leaves more than a few strings of lace around the glass. The nose has a few elements of goodness, however it isn't as rich as I thought it would be. The given aromas present are characoal, fruity esters, roasted malt, and a slight sweetness coming from the oatmeal.

Less astringent and more rich in the flavor. The oatmeal really adds up here, providing a velvety texture and a lovely sweetness. Subtle fruit kicks around. Unsweetened chocolate. For a body that is nearly 10% ABV and full, this drinks reasonably easy for the size. Of course, it helps that the alcohol is hidden well.

End result: a worthy and possibly overlooked strong stout.

On tap at 101 Bottles. Pours a dark black with a thick dark head to match. The aroma is of dark malts, chocolate, and coffee. The complexity here is great and the coffee like flavors are ones i really enjoy in stouts. There is little hop bitterness here but it works well in this beer. It's well balanced and the alcohol is masked pretty well too. This is my first beer from Ballast Point and certainly won't be my last.

Poured into a Green Flash snifter. No freshness date.

A- Pours a solidly opaque black color with a 3/4 inch dark tan head that has good retention time and eventually becomes a thick ring around the edge of the glass and random bubbles of surface foam. Thin wisps of lacing.

S- Very earthy. Seems like a lot of hops as well as malts were used since there's a roasty aroma as well as some herbal grassy notes on top.

T- A great, even flow of dark roasted malts with a subtle yet amply bitter finish. Notes of molasses, dark chocolate and caramel. Alcohol definitely makes its presence known but isn't imposing.

M- Certainly thick and robust but still smooth and slick. Medium-high carbonation is a bit of a surprise for an Imperial Stout but is definitely welcome since it works well within the construct of the beer.

O- Me rikey very, very much.
