Poured into snifter from bottle.

Appearance: Dark, dark brown. Dark chocolate color with an off-white head. Not much lacing remains after the head is gone.

Smell: Chocolatey notes, both dark and milk varieties. Roasted malts. Slight coffee smells. Little bit of toffee.

Taste: Chocolate throughout. Bitter finish that is not overwhelming. Balanced flavors. Toffee notes, roasted malts. Very similar to the smell.

Mouthfeel: Thin to medium bodied. Not a lot of carbonation.

Overall: Great stout. Delicious, but the mouthfeel leaves a little to be desired.

Picked up a 22oz bomber of this while on vacation in Arizona last month, couldn't resist waiting any longer and cracked it. No date as far as I can discern from the bottle.

A - The beer pours deep dark brown, almost black, with a huge billowing 3 finger brown/mocha colored bubbly head. Excellent retention and lacing throughout.

S - Nice roasted chocolate malts with some coffee and vanilla tones. A hint of alcohol warmth in the back along with some slight earthy hop flavors.

T - Very rich roast flavors immediately: chocolate, coffee, patent roast malts. Very similar to the aroma though more complex as the flavors blend together quite nicely. A mild/medium bitterness with an earthy hop character found on the nose. Alcohol is present and provides a nice warm character that doesn't overpower the palette. Finishes dry.

M - Full bodied with good carbonation. Thick and pleasing.

O - Another excellent brew from Ballast Point. I wish they distributed to Colorado as I have enjoyed the few of their beers I've been fortunate enough to sample. Recommended!

On-tap at Dirty Truth.

Pours into a tulip, black as the deepest depths of the sea. Small creamy tan head retains for a bit eventually becoming a ring.

Lots of roasted malt, some cocoa, dark fruit, and quite a bit of alcohol in the nose.

Taste is also definitely roast forward, bitter dark chocolate, raisin/dark fruit, some earthy and piny hop action back there too. Some licorice and alcohol.

Lowish carbonation, quite a bitter feel to it, noticeable alcohol.

A little too abrasive with the roasted malt but a good stout, definitely a bit of a sipper.

A: Pours an opaque black color. No light gets through at all. A two finger tan head forms with very good retention. Rings of sticky lace is left behind.
S: A soft, but very enjoyable aroma. Milk chocolate, light roast, cream coffee. Bread pudding, light toffee sweetness. Very nice.
T: Milk chocolate and lightly sweet toffee is up front. Lightly roasted and toasted malts with some coffee. This is good.
M/D: A full body that is perfectly carbonated. Velvety smooth. Like silk. So easy and enjoyable to drink. The alcohol is nowhere in sight.

This is a great Imperial Stout. Well made with lots of subtle complexities. Highly recommended.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter. No bottle date, but this has been in the cellar for at least a year now.

Appearance - Dark brown, almost black. Nice khaki head with decent retention. After a while there's not much to it.

Smell - Chocolate from the roasted malts and a surprising amount of booze. Hops in the background, but not enough to smell grassy. Just a hint.

Taste - Chocolate malts throughout. A little one-note. Goes right into the bitter hop finish. The hops are significantly more prominent in the taste. Again, not grassy, but substantial. Almost like an RIS.

Mouthfeel - Low carbonation, but not a heavy body. Slightly metallic flavor to it. A little dry.

Overall - A decent stout, but lacking in any distinguishing characteristics. Perhaps a bit more than the sum of its parts as I find myself enjoying the beer without loving the individual attributes.

Earthy. Bitter yet balanced. A bitterness based on coffee and hops. Black with red highlights, and lace sheets. Great roast, coffee aromas. A sipper. Another great creation from this brewery.Dry finish.
The hops do not stand out.Very minor chocolate.
Aged a year, thanks AugustGarage.
