Appearance: It pours a black body with foamy caramel head, about two fingers. Lacing and retention are both great.
Smell: Freshly brewed coffee permeates the air as soon as the beer is poured. There is a sweet malt aroma with some vanilla undertones as well.
Taste: Wow! The first sip is pure coffee. This transitions into hints of vanilla, smokey malts, and crackers. There is just enough bitterness at the end to let you know there are some hops mixed in. A bitter coffee punch blended with malts lingers in the aftertaste with a slight burn from the alcohol.
Mouth feel: Thick and buttery, just like a good porter should be. There is little carbonation and it goes down quite smooth for a beer with an ABV of 10%.
Overall: The balance of this brew is amazing. Other than maybe the initial coffee notes, nothing is ever overpowering. Hop bitterness, smokey malts, and vanilla all come to together to invite sip after delicious sip.
