Our Victory at Sea Imperial Porter is a bold, smooth brew with just the right amount of sweetness. We infused this robust porter with whole vanilla beans and San Diego’s own Caffe Calabria coffee beans. The subtle roasted notes and minimal acidity of the cold brewed coffee, balances perfectly with the sweet caramel undertones of the malt, creating a winning combination for your palate.

Appearance: Pours thick and black... Looks real good! Had a quick rising head and quickly dissipated to none due to the 10% ABV. Lost of lacing on the glass.

Smell: I picked up the vanilla and chocolate quickly with the sweet notes. Roasty aroma lots coffee busting out. Many other notes I can't point out yet. I love coffee beer so the smell was perfect!

Taste: BIG roasty flavor up front for me. I get vanilla & chocolate then all the dark malts with the coffee at the end. Not a coffee drinker so it really hits at the end for me.

Mouthfeel: Heavy body, some carbonation... what I would expect for a porter. creamy, smooth finish.

Overall: Amazing if you like coffee porters or stouts. This is a must get!

Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a Surly Darkness chalice. Label says enjoy by 01/15/14.

Appearance: Pours an oily pitch black with a moderate amount of rising bubbles. Solid two finger deep tan head that slowly fades into a thinner creamy layer. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.

Smell: A rich, sweet, and roasty dark aroma with a big presence of chocolate, coffee, and vanilla. Upfront dark roasted barley malts with big hints of dark chocolate, roasted coffee beans, burnt toast, vanilla, and cream. Also some hints of burnt caramel, toffee, grains, biscuit, and smoked malt. Some sweet molasses and burnt brown sugar hints. Subtle background hints of raisin and fig. Very laid back hops. Huge on the roasty coffee. A pretty good aroma.

Taste: Like the aroma hints at, a big roasty and rich stout taste with a big taste of coffee, chocolate, and vanilla notes. Roasty dark malts with a huge upfront taste of coffee beans, dark chocolate, and vanilla. Malt notes of burnt caramel, toffee, toast, biscuit, grains, and some char and smoked malt. Sweet notes of burnt molasses and brown sugar. Subtle undertones of dark fruit with notes of fig, raisin, and prune. Light earthy hops in the background. A very good coffee forward stout taste.

Mouthfeel: Medium to heavy bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Very creamy, silky, and somewhat syrupy. Very smooth with a well hidden alcohol presence.

Overall: A very good imperial porter. Great taste of coffee beans and chocolate with a nice silky smooth body.

Pours an almost pitch black with a nice two finger head.

Smell is heavy bitter coffee. Dark malts and vanilla take the back seat.

Taste mirrors the nose. Bitter coffee up front with a wave of vanilla and dark malts after.

Nice mouthfeel and more carbonation than expected.

Excellent beer. Would definitely drink again.
