Pours like an amber ale, amber in color, maybe a little darker than average, but despite that, there is good clarity, great head on it, perfect 1.5". Kind of a malt forward aroma, a small noticeable hop existence.

Tastes of caramel and that minor bitterness from the standard hopping on an amber ale. The bitterness continues in the mouthfeel as if it keeps growing. Not a big fan of when bitterness is the dominant trait of a beer, its fine with a good hop mouthfeel or even some sweetness or heavier consistency to balance it out, but not necessarily so here.

Not the best beer by any means from Ballast Point, but has a respectable position in their lineup.

22oz Bomber - thanks to jfam for this

Appearance - Clear copper colour with a large size fizzy beige coloured head. There is a low amount of carbonation showing and there is some great lacing. The head lasted for over 5 minutes.

Smell - Malts, caramel, hops, grapefruit

Taste & Mouth - There is an average amount of carbonation and I can taste malts, caramel and some hops. There is also a bit of chocolate and some hints of raisins and grapefruit. It ends with a very sweet malty aftertaste with some lingering hop bitterness.

Overall - Not a bad beer in any way, but a little bit too sweet for my tastes. It was almost like a dessert beer at times. Still a good example of the style and worth a try.

22oz bottle poured into a standard pint glass.

A: 2 fingered white head, good retention and lacing. Appropriate amber bodied brew.

S: Lots of sweet candied malts upfront. Not much else to report.

T: Hops jump out in the tasting placing the malts in the backseat. Malts regain their footing as the tasting goes on and the beer warms. Less sweet than the smell indicated.

M: Medium light bodied brew that is well carbonated.

O: Pretty darn good American Amber.
