Should have read the fine print instead of just assuming this was a hoppy stout.... It's deff really good if you're in the mood for a very present cayane and cumin flavor but if you're not.... Well you won't hate it

Intense, if not a little too abrasive for my tastes...but I respect the brewers' intentions. The curry flavor and cayenne dominate up front and linger in the aftertaste. The coconut sweetness and a little lime zest come through before fading behind the heat. Mouth feel is a little thin for a stout. Overall, very unique. Not a beer I'd want a lot of in one sitting, but certainly worth a try.

This beer pours a deep black color whit a medium head. The aroma presents bubblegum, lemongrass, cumin, as well as lots of floral and perfumey smells I cannot quite identify. The flavor also starts with bubblegum as well as banana laffy taffy, cumin, cardamom, greeen curry spices, and again some off floral notes. The mouthfeel is fairly thin and bright. Overall this is a beer that is a crazy as advertised, unique in flavor profile, it offers things no other beer has for me.

Poured from a 22oz bottle into an imperial pint glass.

A: The beer is a deep dark brown color with a thin beige head that fades quickly and leaves a thin lace on the glass.

S: The aroma contains very strong spices, some roasted malts and some coffee, but pretty much all minty, peppery, herbal spices.

T: The taste starts out sweet with a quick burst of coffee and some chocolate that initially leads you to think that the spice might not be quite as strong as you smelled. No sooner you finish that thought… here it comes… an onslaught of peppery, herbal, minty spices, even some heat (Is that curry?). As dominant as the spices are, the coffee, chocolate and lactose flavors keep flashing in. The malt character is hearty and the hops presence is mild but I don’t think there’s enough malt or hops available to balance the spices in this beer. The after-taste is (yeah, you guessed it) very spicy and slightly sweet.

M: A little crisp and a little smooth, medium body, light-to-medium carbonation, finish is very sticky.

O: I’ll give credit for the beer being flavorful and quite complex, does not go down easily, not too filling, good kick, decent representation of style, it’s a very uniquely intense beer overall.

Wow....all I can say is wow. I'm rating this beer for brewer intentions.....not personal taste. The beer poured an opaque black with ecru head that did not leave much lace. The scent was a cacaphony of spices...cumin, pepper and other stuff. The taste was spicy and reminded me of masala. The Mouthfeel was medium in body with smooth carbonation. Overall it's definitely worth a try. It's on par with the rogue siracha.

Undated bomber at 42 degrees into a hand washed and dried JK snifter, allowed to warm to 50 degrees
Aroma – basically, curry
Head large (Five cm, aggressive pour), light brown, frothy, rapidly diminishing to a three mm ring and no layer
Lacing - none
Body dark brown/black, opaque
Flavor – curry, definitely curry, burns my mouth. Not really picking up any stout qualities. No hops, no malt, no alcohol, no diacetyl.
Palate full, almost creamy, soft carbonation

I picked up a bottle of Ballast Point's Indra Kunindra for $7.99 at The Lager Mill. I've had a couple Curry beers before and I thought this one would be worth a try, so lets see how it goes. 2015 Vintage. Poured from a 22oz brown bottle into a teku.

A- The label looks good, it's got a good design and it's eye catching. It poured a dark brown color that didn't really let any light come through with two fingers worth of fluffy slightly darker tan head that died down to a thin ring that eventually faded away and it left a little bit of spotty lacing behind. This is a pretty nice looking beer, but I wish it had better head retention.

S- The aroma starts off with a lower amount of high sweetness with the coconut being the first to show up and it's the most noticeable with some cinnamon coming right after it and then come the rest of the spices with a little bit of cayenne and cumin coming through with some caramel malt and caramel like aromas with a good amount of sweet malts, it helps bring some balance and it fits right in with the coconut. This beer has a good aroma, it lives up to it's name, but it's hard to tell this is a stout just from the aroma.

T- The taste seems to be similar to the aroma and it starts off with a higher amount of medium sweetness with the coconut still being the first to show up and it imparts the same nice and natural coconut aspects that I got in the aroma. Up next comes all the spices coming through at once, the cinnamon and cumin stick out the most, but the cayenne imparts a noticeable light burn in the back of mu throat. More caramel flavors coming through at the end with a little bitterness with a light burn from the pepper with some cinnamon and coconut flavors in the aftertaste. This is a good tasting beer, it's got all the aspects that I would expect from a curry beer and they work well together.

M- A little smooth, a little warming, a little tingly, creamy, medium bodied with a higher amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is pretty nice, but i wish the warming heat was toned down just a little.

This is a pretty nice beer and a good example of the style, it had all the aspects that I look for and when it came to the balance it was pretty good for the most part. This beer didn't have the best drinkability, the tingly and warming heat made it so that just a glass or a half a glass would be the perfect amount for me. What I like the most about this beer is that it lived up to being called a curry beer and all the key flavors were there. What I like the least about this beer is the stout base didn't come through much and I wish the warming heat was a little toned down. I might buy this beer again when in the mood for a curry beer and I don't think I would turn one down. I would recommend it to anyone who likes curry beers. All in all I liked this beer, but it's pretty intense and I think you really have to like curry to enjoy this beer. It's not a favorite Ballast Point beer and it's one of the better curry beers I've had. Good job guys, this is a good Curry beer.

Had this beer last night. One of the most complex beers I've had. This is definitely a sipper. Very well balanced. Would recommend for anyone to try it

4-11-16 - On tap at the Ballast Point Tasting Room in the Little Italy section of San Diego. 8 oz. pour into a tall tulip glass. Spectacular cumin and curry aromas! Dark brown color with no head. No residue cling. Clean fresh mouthfeel. Cayenne pepper spice is just the right amount. Very interesting "curry stout". Glad I had this one.

This was better than I thought it would be. The aroma and taste shocked me. Everything was over powering, but for me it worked, I got all the key flavors explained by Ballast Point.

Pours a deep black with a nice tan head. Smell is of curry spices upfront and a bit of roasted malt on the back. The taste starts off with a nice sweeter stout taste but immediately turns into curry spice. As you breath it in, the curry becomes dominant and makes for one of the more interesting spiced stouts I've ever had. Feel is very good but just a tiny bit thin for me - a tiny bit only though.
Overall, a fantastic CURRY stout (you must like curry) and one to definitely try on its own or with some Indian food.

Pours black with limited brown head... looks more like a coffee than a beer. Smells of mollases and cumin

Immediate hit of molases followed by indian spice, and a super dry, slightly spicy finish. Some hints of coconut milk, some nutiness, and a bready quality.

Like the taste more than the mouthful, which is dry and tacky, It retains enough beer-like quality and has some interesting flavors to explore, to make it worth a try. Probably would mix well with some spicy thai or indian fare, but probably too much over the top to return to on a frequent basis.

Ohp -- forgot to review this beer from the other night! On-tap at One Eyed Betty's in Ferndale, Michigan. I was given a free pour of this. Thanks a lot for the free poor, Mr. Hudson. Awesome -- who doesn't love free beer?

This was just one hell of an interesting beer... I can see why this is very love it or hate it. Basically, curry. Curry all over the place. You smell it, you taste it. That's that. Curry overload, so you'd better enjoy it. To some, curry smells like B.O. -- I thought it did initially, but quickly got over it and related it to a more desirable thing, like, you know ... food. This beer is flooded in curry with a very modest roasted malt character, surprisingly. The curry is actually pretty overpowering, and it's most definitely the most prominent aroma and flavor. The aftertaste is warming due to the curry, which had me going back for another sip. The feel is middle-of-the-road and quite nice for the style.

Totally bizarre. I knew about this beer but didn't know the specifics, and now I know the specific: CURRY. If you don't like Indian food, don't bother. This is a pretty nice beer, but one that I can see a lot of people not liking at all. For the style/as a beer, I'm not too fond of it just because, if you couldn't guess, I got almost all and only currycurrycurry all the way through. Definitely try this one, but if you have a bomber of it, be prepared to share it.

Maybe this just wasn't for me, but I hated it. Worst taste ive ever had in my mouth. I tried it on tap on the brewery one night and hated it, so I assumed something was wrong with the tap. Had a bottle the next week, and it was just as bad as I remembered it. Smells like a dirty diaper wrapped in indian food, tastes even worse.

Poured at 50°F from a 22oz bottle into a Spiegelau Stout glass. Consumed on 31Jan16.
LOOK: Pours with a fingers worth of khaki foam that dissipates into a line after 1 minute and 20 seconds. Black in color with an orange tint. Rising bubbles are scarce and very small in size. Lacing is thin and practically non-existent.
SMELL: Strong Indian spice aromas are quite evident up front. I know there is cumin, cayenne, and curry, but they all blend into one mouth-watering spicy aroma. Mild aromas of sweet chocolate and coconut along with subtle sweet coffee and vanilla flavors and hints of lime back up the spice.
TASTE: Very strong Indian spice flavors bombard the palate upon first sip and are immediately followed by mild vanilla and coconut flavors. Mild flavors of sweet chocolate continue the taste theatrical as coconut flavors grow stronger. Mild lime and sweet coffee flavors along with subtle bitter roasted malt flavors, which weren't even in the smell, enter lastly as all previous flavors push on.
FEEL: Full-bodied and subtly carbonated. Goes down smooth and creamy. Finishes very dry. The spices add a strong, but pleasant (at least to me) burn to the mouth.

Christmas gift from my wife. 22 oz. bomber. She bought it at Bevmo in Glendale, CA. No date on bottle. Poured into tulip glass. Paired with cheddar, pepper jack, and tomato grilled cheese sandwiches for dinner.

Look: Dark reddish brown with dark brown head.

Smell: Predominant scent is curry powder, very powerful and overwhelms pretty much anything else that's in there.

Taste: Follows the smell: hard to discern anything but curry. It's actually hot! The heat slowly intensifies in the aftertaste. Not getting any coconut or lime.

Feel: Medium carbonation, medium viscosity. Nothing sticks out.

Overall: This is a curry bomb. This is definitely the most unusual beer I've ever tasted. I think I would enjoy it more if the curry flavor were less pronounced. It actually gets pretty hard to keep drinking this after the first 12 oz. or so.

S: Coconut, cumin & curry

T: Follows the nose, slight cocoa notes as well, peppery heat as well up front. Cumin, heat, & coconut lead the charge as this warms, a little roastyness lurks in the background as well, along with some dryness. Finishes with heat, a little curry & coconut

MF: Medium body, fairly soft carbonation

I really liked this, might have to buy another & pair it with some Indian or Thai food

8oz pour into a BP Tulip glass – 06/26/2015

A: The pour is a dark ruddy brown that consists of a near black core with some russet color taking effect towards the edges. A dense lather of oatmeal colored cream forms over top with some good longevity. Very creamy only leaving behind a few small curvy lines of lace behind.

S: The nose reveals up front dark roast malts, cocoa, toasted coconut and lightly charred grains with some brown sugar/molasses type sweetness. Quickly shifts into the add-in spice mixture which comes together like taco seasonings if you will. Picking up lots of Cumin influence here with a bit of that warming Cayenne pepper spice. There is definitely a lot going on and especially as the brew warms up but am still on the fence with it. Not really getting the lime here either.

T: Flavors are definitely heavy handed with the spices as others have noted. It’s a bit overwhelming at times and again getting the Cumin most dominantly which sets the pace for more of a Taco style mix rather than Curry per say. The base stout seems pleasant enough with a good dose of blackened grains there, molasses and umami notes, and a bit of chalky cocoa powder. There are some fruity elements to this but not exactly stand out with the lime or coconut. They seem to get lost in the sauce if you will. Has a good moderate amount of earthy hop bitterness hitting midway as it rolls into a spicy warm chili pepper finish. Cayenne lingers a bit in the aftertaste and offers up a smoky quality. Again quite a bit going on here albeit fairly well executed in the end.

M: The body is semi full and moderately thick with an upper moderate amount of prickly carbonation on the tongue. There is a bit of chalkiness to the feel and some bitterness towards the finish. Warm and lingering with all the spices.

D: This brew is a fun experiment to try out but can be somewhat polarizing with the heavy spice additions. I really don’t get the love for this one. Just not something I could drink much of in one sitting.

A - nice dark brown opaque beer with a mocha head that dissipates pretty quickly but leaves okay lacing
S - curry, cumin, black pepper, creamy coconut, little bit of roasted malt in there, little smokiness
T - curry, black pepper, umami, definitely some creamy coconut in there, spicy
M - for a 7% stout this has a heavy, complex mouthfeel, alcohol is completely covered, aftertaste is spicy curry
O - This beer is a million times better than drinking another boring 7% stout/porter, it's very complex, and for me puts itself in a realm of beers that are 10-12% abv. I don't know if i'd necessarily buy it again, but it's good.

When I saw this beer on my local shelf I was immediately excited. I Love curry! I put it on my pbjs! This beer packs that punch, yes. But what it doesn't have is that balance of flavors.

Look: dark dark brown. Mahogany with light but barely. Enticing.

Smell: garam Masada through and through. Cumin and smoked Paprika m in particular. The subtly sweet creamy aroma of coconut provided excellent balance to the spice.

Taste: this is where I feel the beer is missing a few vital things. Most if not all of that coconut subtle flavor is nonexistent. There is no roast chocolate, which I think would eccentuate the spices. A few minutes into the glass there is zero head and zero lacing. The last flavor sticking around is that of masalapowder. Truthfully, despite it's fault I very much enjoyed this beer. With a bowl full of coconut rice I wouldn't be able to walk away from it.

I came into this with an open mind, intrigued by the concept. I love curry, whether cooking simple carrots or sharing a large round table full of vibrant dishes with others.

However, if this is any indication, curry does not belong in beer. It clashes with Indian food, and kills anything else you eat with it. It's just downright offputting in a beer. Describing the actual aspects of it is pointless, as the label says it all.

Moderately deep brown, tan head.

Smell is wild - absolutely wild. Curried sweet potatoes. What? Yeah. This is just from outer space. But, good outer space.

Flavor is bitter, malty, cayenne spice. Not as crazy as the smell. Not bad. Would go with Indian food, barbecue, and probably lots of other foods, especially meat-based. This savory.

Moderate mouthfeel. Wouldn't mind a bit more richness. Not overcarbonated.

This is weird stuff. Singular. But I think there's a place for it. Bonus points for making something so weird that remains, weirdly, drinkable.

Getting started just before sunset with this exceedingly unique brew, Ballast Point Indra Kunindra. The style is a foreign export stout, with an emphasis on the 'foreign' flavors; an explosion of Indian spices, most prominently cumin and curry, with hints of coconut and roasted malt on the back end. Finishes with a decent amount of heat from the hot red pepper but it isn't assaulting the palate like some chile beers do. Overall a worthwhile experiment and a super unique experience but I would recommend it only for fans of spicy Indian cuisine. Paired beautifully with spicy-sweet molasses cookies.

I had to review this beer since I'm guessing it is a love it or hate it kind of beer.

Pours an opaque black with a finger of tan head.

Smell is straight up curry. I get a lot of cumin from the smell. I love cumin so I love the smell of this beer. I'm thinking a lot of folks won't like the scent for a beer.

Taste is straight up curry with a heavy presence of cumin. This is a very unique beer but I'm not sure everyone will like it. While I do enjoy it I think I can only take a small amount of this beer. It has a little pepper heat on the finish. If you hate this beer I can see it being a great marinade for meat.

Mouth feel is nice and smooth.

Overall, this beer is not for everyone and even for people who like it, I'm not sure how much you can drink. I'd think eight or ten ounces may be the limit. After having half a glass the heat does start to build. Nothing painful but it does add up.
