Pours clear golden amber. A huge light khaki head retain and laces well.

Smell is awesome, very citrusy, mostly tangerine and grapefruit. That's pretty much it.

Taste is juicy orange, a bit of dry malt in the back, and nicely bitter throughout.

Texture is good, nothing over the top, easy to drink. A medium light body with good carbonation.

The flavor here is spot on, bigger than many DIPA/IIPAs I have had. Very enjoyable, from a company that does IPAs very well.

We've only recently got Ballast Point beers here in the North Texas area. I checked here on BA and saw that their Big Eye IPA had excellent reviews so that's what I picked up. You don't see many beers with fish on their labels either.

This is a good-looking beer. I got a nice, two and a half finger high, off-white, and fluffy head with decent retention and lacing. The beer is a clear, light copper color.

This is definitely a hoppy-smelling beer. Strong aromas of tropical citrus, spicy and earthy hops, some pine resin, and caramel sweetness. I'd say it also has a rye-like aroma to it as well, most likely from the spiciness of the hops. I get a bit of a phenol aroma but I think I should have washed my glass better. My dishwasher sucks. The more it warms, the more spicy and rye-y it gets.

The taste is much like the smell but more malty. There's plenty of hops that add bitterness but this is well-balanced. The hops add spiciness and moderate, sweet tropical citrus notes that linger on the tongue. Pine resin is less pronounced, as is the rye.

This is a medium-bodied beer with medium carbonation. It leaves a dry feel but is smooth and has a slightly slick feeling on the tongue and cheeks.

Nothing to complain about here. This is a sort of quintessential IPA.

12 oz. bottle poured into a standard pint glass. Best by June 15, 2012.

A - Pours a clear vibrant orange color. A one finger off-white head dies quickly. Lacing is minimal.

S - Very tropical aroma. Sweet tangerine, floral hops, mango, caramel.

T - Starts out with sweet citrus and biscuit malt. This is followed by a nice juicy hop bitterness, which never overpowers. Leaves me with a slight grapefruit hoppy aftertaste, but the finish is pretty clean.

M - Good carbonation and a crisp, refreshing body.

O - This beer often gets lost in the shadow of it's very impressive brother, Sculpin, but I was very impressed. Very balanced and drinkability is high. Tropical and sweet with just enough hops. It isn't world class, but it's very good.
