Pours an orange color with a 2 finger head. Nice lacing on the glass.
Smells of citrus, some herbal aroma and a little sweetness.
Tastes of citrus, tropical fruit, a little herbal and floral with a nice bitter bite. Good malt backbone helps balance the hops, finishes with a grapefruit rind aftertaste.
Carbonation is good, mouthfeel is medium and a little resinous/oily.
This is a well done IPA, complex and layered in flavor. Very nice.

355 ML poured into a tulip
A-- Poured a clear, light orange amber color. Bright white one finger head. Great staying power to the head. Even better with swirling as got two fingers of head. Nice fluffy head that when recedes leaves lots of spotty and soapy lacing. Nice.
S-- Break this down two ways. In the bottle got a lot of bubblegum in the nose. Very vibrant smell. In the glass a lot of tropical sorbet. Peach, lime, guava, orange and soft grapefruit. in the glass it is slightly muted. Not as fresh as the bottle nose.
T-- Forward pine, grapefruit and orange bitterness, though getting slightly muted due to the age of the beer. Still shows flashes of what this can be.
M-- Medium feel and medium carbonation. Not as oily as it should be and showing lots of overripe orange, pine and grapefruit. malt backbone makes appearances in the feel as a good amount of toffee are well balanced with the fruits. Good citrus sorbet finish but it is showing it's age.
O-- It's old. Say that up front. Perfectly serviceable though. Shows flashes of what it was and that is more than enough. hides the alcohol well and something that would work in a big way in this climate. if Australia got fresh Big Eye watch out. Shows its age in the feel so the downgrade. Otherwise a world class IPA

Could have left this in the freezer a touch longer before consuming. Oh well.
Pours a lovely orange toffee colour with good head and fantastic lacing.
Smell is somewhat subtle and balanced tropical notes- think guava and lime with some malt poking through. Floral notes too.
Taste is excellently balanced hop and malt sweetness, but firmly West Coast.
Mouthfeel is thin with not a whole lot of carbonation. Fairly drinkable as a result. In fairness I think it could do with more carbonation, but I will check subsequent bottles to confirm this.
Overall a good beer which is suitable for sessioning. Great "budget" offering.

Ballast Point Big Eye IPA
A: Pours orange golden liquid with extremely large carbonation bubbles into the glass. Bubbles are slowly wandering to the top. Quite hazy. The head is about two fingers high at first before it slowly goes down to about half the size. Lots of lacings on the glass. Looks lovely!
S: Lots of both bittering and aroma hops. Fruity, yet earthy at the same time. A bit of sea breeze. Seaweed. Peaches. Oranges and also some A hint of alcohol at the end.
T: Lots of caramel at first, then a surprisingly salty taste before it transcends into a hop burst. Slightly peppery, almost like how I think Tettnanger tastes. Tobacco. Pineapple. Orange peel. Mandarins. A very faint tone of grapefruit. Hay. Finishes with a dry taste of orange peel that lasts long.
M: Feels smooth. The carbonation is medium with large bubbles. Feels a bit watery at the end of the mouth. Leaves a bit of oiliness on the tounge
O: A very nice IPA which surprised me with a lot of unexpected smells and flavours. It feels balanced and looks really nice. A must try if given the opportunity.

Picked this up at Whole Foods in Santa Rosa. 22oz bomber pours a clear, dark copper/amber colour. Tastes nicely bitter with some pine and a strong malt backbone in the finish. Drinks down very smooth and would be very sessionable with the 6.8% alcohol. Not sure of the freshness of the bottle, but its not a bad ipa overall.
