I poured this beer into a pint glass, it has a copper body with a 1" white head. The smell is extremely hoppy and citrus. The taste is awesome, very piney and some citrus with a nice bitter hop bite. The mouth feel is great and overall this is really good tasting IPA,

It doesn't sound like high praise, but this is a good, above average AIPA. It looks good in the glass, with clarity, color and lots of lace. The aroma is good and strong enough.

The taste has the almost over the top hops one expects from the style. Bitter and slightly floral and piney. The aftertaste lingers nice and bitter.

I would seek Big Eye out and drink it again.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a standard pint glass.
Copper/gold in color, with a big head of off-white foam.
Aroma-Big whiff of piney, juicy hops.
Taste-Toasted malt rolled in brown sugar infused with apricot and piney citrussy hops. Very tasty and well-balanced. A bit more malt-forward than Sculpin. Very nice. Highly recommended.

A: A beautiful deep golden yellow and with a decent head after storing the beer in the growler for ten days.

S: Extremely hoppy. There are a decent amount of caramel tones to the nearly perfect aroma.

T: Very bitter and maybe a little bit too bitter. Ballast Point definitely has a near perfect balance in this beer with the caramel and citrus undertones present in this beer.

M: There was excellent carbonation despite storing in a growler for 10 days. The retention could be a tiny bit heavier but it is still very good.

O: If you have the opportunity to try this definitely do. Personally, I think that this is the best IPA that Ballast Point produces, better than Sculpin IPA.

12 ounce bottle poured into a Unibroue tulip.

Appearance is cloudy amber tone with one finger of head. This IPA from Ballast Point has a nose with orange, caramel, grapefruit and some light herbs. It has a taste of hops right away, more of those citrus fruits and a fair amount of malts. The mouthfeel is medium, some appropriate bitterness in the finish, but not overdone. With everything being considered, a good IPA, but nothing worth making a special trip to pick up.

Pours gold amber with a mild chill haze. Three fingers high head with decent retention. Sheets of thin lacing on the glass.

Floral bouquet of orange and pine. Pine dominant with a good chunk of sweet malts with alcohol peeking through.

Caramel and crystal malts, with a hop blast of lemon, pine, orange and a tad of earthiness. Well balanced with mild bitterness with alcohol that could be hidden much better.

Dries well leaving a good parched touch. Medium body and carbonation.

West coast IPA with a great deal of sweetness from the malts and a balanced mix of citrus and pine hops. My one gripe is that the alcohol isn't kept hidden despite the malt being capable enough to do so. Very good IPA overall, worth a try.

Appearance - Pours a semi-hazy, bright orange amber with a finger width off-white head. Leaves behind an average, but sticky lace.

Smell - Citrus hops, orange, very bright. A bit of earthiness sits behind this.

Taste - Citrus hop right off the bat, complemented by a solid, toasty malt background. Hops are more orange zest than anything. A bit of an earthy tone to accompany the citrus hop bitterness in the aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Medium bodied, decently carbonated. A little rough around the edges.

Overall - If Sculpin IPA is a squeaky clean, high class, white collared IPA, this is it's rough and tumble, blue collared cousin. Flavors are big, bold and hold no punches.
