On tap during Ballast Point's Barrel Aged Day

A: Slightly hazy amber color with a pretty thin off white head.

S: Pretty nice sour aroma off the bat. A good deal of blackberries and currants in the nose. As it started to warm, I began to pick up notes of cedar wood.

T: I'm not sure if this was a new batch or what, but this beer feels way underrated. It's one of the best sours I've ever had. Lots of dark cherry and red currant sourness with a touch of vanilla and oak. I loved this beer.

Mixed red and auburn colors, no head. Aroma was not pleasant, not quite rancid, but musty/stale type thing going on, no sour or fruit notes really picked up, just dominated by undesireable age notes.

A little bit of fruit, cherry, comes through on the palate, and thankfully, the off smells didn't permeate the taste profile, but it still isn't as sour or fruity as I would like it. Just not a fan of the Ballast Point wild ales. Lots of off flavors, not much fruit or sour taste.

A: poured an amber brown in color with burgundy highlights and a thin head that left a little lacing sticking to the glass.

S: the nose was pretty interesting consisting of cherries, some funky aromas, slight vinegar and plum notes. it did have a acidic character however.

T: the plum character was more apparent on the palate alongside funky, acidic, vinegar notes and quite a bit of cherry flavor.

M: the brew was medium in body with a moderate amount of carbonation which had a fruity, sweet, slight acidic, and tart finish.

D: it was pretty interesting all around but I thought it was really tasty and was glad to try a sour brew from ballast point. it drank pretty good as well for an american wild.

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ

A: The beer pours a sort of hazy red color with a small white head.

S: This smells bad. Really bad. Quite a bit of very ripe cheese, camenbert, perhaps. It's very bacterial with a mild butter note. There is really only a light tartness and mild metallic and vinegar qualities to it.

T: Despite the incredibly off-putting aroma, the flavor is sort of just bland. It's got quite a bit of oak but just a light tartness. A pretty hefty dose of metal along with vinegar and mild to moderate butter flavors.

M: Medium bodied with low to medium carbonation.

O: The aroma on this was nearly unforgivable. The flavor was just bland and watery, and not very good.

On-tap at Beachwood BBQ, a blend of five different beers from different years, one going back all the way back to 2001! On to the beer:

Amber colored with very little head on the pour. There's some funk in the nose (horse blanket) and some sour fruits and currents. The taste is less funky and more sour fruit. Soured red grapes and currents come to mind. All told, I thought this came out quite well.

On-tap at Beachwood I,

A: Pours a deep amber to red with a medium bright white head, solid lace.

S: Quite funky. Smells a bit like stinky Brie with some rotting cherries. I don't know if I like it or am repulsed by it, a little both. Weird nose.

T: Nice cherry and red malt flavour overall. Still has some funk, but the other flavours override it for the most part.

M: Light to medium acidity. A tad thin at points. Pretty clean from where we started.

O: A fun beer to try although it's a bit much at points. Interesting to delve into. Even though it's not delicious it's worth a chance.
